4.5Big Bay State Park(84 reviews) - DO NOT MISS! Spent More than 3 hours State Parks • Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
This was the highlight of our summer! We made a last minute decision to travel to Madeleine Island from our cabin about 2 hours away. The weather was supposed to be beautiful and, lo and behold, we were on the ferry the next morning at 9:30, We made Big Bay our first stop. Many hiking opportunities with views that are second to none. We hiked a trail from the Big Bay lookout back to a picnic area and took the boardwalk from there in the opposite direction to the beach. Next time, I am bringing my suit and towel! While I did go wading, the protected area of the beach disguises Lake Superior's sometimes tumultuous behavior. Bring your camera, your suit and towel, and lunch because you will want to make a day our of this stop!See more..
4.5Lakefront Park(84 reviews) - Quick Stop for a Walk Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Parks • Playgrounds
We stopped here on a couples trip. This park is a quick stop off of I 94 and is a great place to go for a quick walk if you are driving. Unfortunately most of the parking near the park is meter parking and there are not many options for free parking. The pier walkway out to the beach is amazing and there are porta potties at the end of the walk which was nice. The views on the pier are amazing. I would highly recommend this place for a quick stop!See more..
My husband and I took a road trip and discovered this area on our drive! It was a lovely bridge that led to the Osceola Landing, which was a beautiful spot for picnicking because it has a park, picnic tables, large clean restrooms and a boat landing. The view of the shoreline back over to Wisconsin was so pretty. There were two people from the DNR at the landing and checking a couple’s boat before they put it in the water, as they are preventing mussels from entering the river. See more..

This was our first visit to Hartman Creek State Park. We drove around the property initially and decided to park by the lake. On the walk to lake we came across an old restored cabin that was neat to look at. We ventured to walk around the entire lake and had to be very careful at certainly points because of the grade and ice/snow was still on the ground. There were plenty of scenic spots to relax and enjoy the view. As spring time was nearing there we plenty of Canadian geese’s on the lake along with a sole ice fisherman. There are plenty of trails for hiking, snow shoeing, skiing, and horseback riding. There is a visitors center, camping, playgrounds and picnic tables. We be back in the summer to see the beat of the area in a different season. See more..

4.0Sidie Hollow County Park(3 reviews) - Artificial lake, 3 campgrounds, hiking trails Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
I came here mainly to hike, and on the hot day hiked near the lake, and it was very good. I cannot speak on the campgrounds, since I didn't use them. This is being in the Driftless area of Wisconsin, there are no true lakes here, and this lake is just like the rest of them - dammed creek. This doesn't diminish its value as a body of water - to the contrary there is a lake where none is supposed to be naturally.See more..

There is a playground for kids and bathroom facilities. Nice lake for canoeing or kayaking. Also a large cover area with lots of tables for seating near the lake. We enjoyed the stay and road around the area on bicycles seeing the wildlife and wild flowers. People were fishing at the waters edge. You can make reservations to reserve a site.See more..
4.0Collin's Marsh Wildlife Area(1 review) - Used to be spectacular Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails When I went here as a kid, one could observe 1000's of waterbirds. Now there are dozens. None-the-less, this is still a nice place to spend some "wild" time. There are times, during migrations, that you can see dozens of species of birds. You can visit the Neustadter Nature Center for information on the marsh. There are also occasional nature programs there. You can rent canoes and life jackets at the center so you can paddle through the marsh. There are about 2400 acres to explore. In most years ospreys nest on the roof of the observation tower. You can see the nest's progression via the "Osprey cam". Spend some time at Pinecrest (also on hwy JJ), go a little farther west. Bring your binoculars and enjoy some fine birding and walking and canoeing. It's quiet and peaceful. I was out there this winter and saw a snowy owl and some short eared owls. In the spring the marsh is alive with waterfowl. After you wear yourself out at the marsh, drive west into Collins and treat yourself to excellent food at the Al Corso Restaurant. Pinecrest, the marsh, and Al Corso, the perfect trifecta for a wonderful day. Make sure you wear sturdy shoes.See more..
3.0Hemlock County Park(1 review) - Used to be a good park, perhaps will be so in the future Bodies of Water • Parks • Forests
I discovered this park at the bad time. The water was drained from the lake (It's actually a slough, not a proper lake), exposing nasty looking muck that is a bottom of the lake. According to the Sauk County parks department, it's not an accident but planned event - to drain the lake. They are doing something, that hopefully will benefit this place in the long run. In the meantime, for the 2 seasons that I visited here, the place is all but ruined. However, the picnic tables are still there, so one can enjoy some deep shade under the hemlocks (yes, they are there - the name is not accidental), and short trail going along the lake (and one into the woods).See more..
4.0Drummond Lake(1 review) - Peaceful and restful Bodies of Water
Well maintained and quiet area. Lots of shore to fish from. Playgrounds, pavilion, and restrooms. I think I saw posts for playing volleyball too. Just down the hill from the Drummond museum.See more..
This park has a beach and playground, and is about 30 acres altogether. There is an artificial waterfall created by a dam. Also you can walk around a bit - there is not much of a trail to speak of, but ATV trail runs through the park, so you walk there when no ATVs are in sight. Park requires an entrance fee, which could be paid i the nearby town (which is a hassle, of course, unless you know the drill and come prepared).See more..

5.0Amsterdam Sloughs(1 review) - Very pretty wild area Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
My husband and I and another couple went here for bird-watching and exploring. The area is very pretty in June, and I took photos of the blooming Siberian Iris and water lillies. It was very peaceful with only occasional traffic on the road we were on. You need to get a map (download from the Wisconsin DNR) to make sure you stay off of private property. The area you can be on, however, is quite large. By June, some of the area had a lot of brush. Expect to wear hiking shoes and long pants.See more..

My husband and I and two of our friends went here for hiking and bird watching. It's a quiet, remote area and we didn't see anyone else while we were there. This was designed by local children ages 9 to 12 with help from a national park ranger and park sculpture teacher. They are all different - no two alike.See more..
4.0Silver Lake Park(1 review) - A nice find Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks This park is a hidden little gem just west of Manitowoc. The lake used to be pretty polluted; but efforts have been made to remediate this. Now a days the lake is much cleaner. The lake is about 55 acres surrounded by 12 acres of woods and riparian habitat. This is a nice place for fishing and wildlife observation. There seems to always be yellow-rumped warblers in the wooded area. This is a quiet lake as no gasoline motors are allowed. Canoes, kayaks and paddle boards are the way to go. Efforts have been made to reduce trash fish in the lake. You can look forward to catching bass, pike, bluegills and perch. There is no size limit; and you can catch 10 fish a day. If your idea of boating is to go fast and make a lot of noise, this lake is not for you. However, if you want to quietly paddle out and catch your supper this is a fine place to do so. There are bathrooms and a rotunda for a rainy day picnic. There is a small pier for offshore fishing and a small boat ramp.See more..
