    - Gorgeous!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Memorial Union Terrace image
The Memorial Union Terrace is one of the most unique things that sets the UW-Madison campus apart! The location and view right on Lake Mendota are unbeatable, you won't find anything just like it at any other campus. Even during the summer when most students are gone, there are a decent amount of the stations inside the union open (ice cream, brats, pub food, bars, + more). We sat on the terrace on a few occasions. During morning/breakfast hours it is peaceful and serene, and at night it is a fun atmosphere to hang with family + friends. Love how there are water activities available right next door. Highly recommend! See more..

  7. 4.0 MagiQuest (304 reviews)
    - Fun physical and mental activity
Points of Interest & Landmarks • Playgrounds
    MagiQuest image
This was the perfect winter experience for a three generation outing with a family that ranged in age from 12 to 69. We were given 2 hours of time (you can earn some more time) to complete as many quests as we could. These quests involved having to traipse back and forth between many imaginatively and artistically decorated zones arranged over three floors of the building to check out particular details. There were many secret doors and arrangements to delight the eye. We divided into two teams— 5 guys and four gals. The women completed more quests, but they discovered some cheat codes! The guys got at least 8,000 steps, and the gals got over 12,000 steps. It was a very fun way to rouse ourselves from our winter torpor. See more..

  13. 4.5 Carr Valley Cheese (130 reviews)
    - Great Cheese
Wednesday: Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Carr Valley Cheese image
I love cheese and I'm always looking for kinds you can't get in the grocery store. I live in Michigan and you really can't get cheese curds, so I always try and get them when I go to Wisconsin, which is rare. Unfortunately, when I stopped late in the afternoon at the shop on Broadway, they had sold out but would be getting some the next morning. I bought many other types of cheese including 10 year aged cheddar and different cheese from goat and sheep milk as well as blended cheeses. The prices were fair coming from a cheese place in a tourist town. I stopped on the way out of town the next morning to get the cheese curds I had missed the day before. I highly recommend this place and they do have more than just cheese including some souvenirs. See more..
  14. 4.5 Acuity Flagpole (103 reviews)
    - Love their flag!
    Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
    Acuity Flagpole image
The flagpole and memorial can be visited at any time. Flag Facts: 70- by 140-foot flag is the world's largest free-flying American flag. Tallest flagpole in North America--nearly 100 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty. 400-foot flagpole weighs approximately 420,000 pounds. Over 500 gallons of paint cover the pole. 11-foot diameter at base tapers to 5 1/2-foot diameter at top. Three pendulum-style tuned mass dampers reduce movement and vibration. Designed to withstand a low temperature of -42 degrees Fahrenheit. The 9,800-square-foot flag, which weighs 340 pounds, is more than four times the size of the average U.S. home. Each star is nearly 3 feet across and each stripe is over 5 feet high. Acuity is proud to dedicate the Veterans memorial at the base to all who assure our freedom and to those that continue to serve. We owe our gratitude and thanks for their service and sacrifice. There are more than 750 inscribed pavers at the base of the pole that list the names of every Sheboygan County Veteran killed in the line of duty. A full list of names along with a map with the location of each can be found in a free handout at the base of the flagpole. The flag may be taken down temporarily during times of maintenance (please check our website) or severe weather. The flag will be lowered to half staff during official observances. See more..

    - Excellent Museum
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • History Museums • Day Trips
    Oshkosh Public Museum image
This is a great museum. It’s across the street from the Paine, so was super easy to get to after viewing the Nutcracker exhibit. It’s in the beautiful Sawyer Family Victorian mansion. One fun activity is spying all of the Tiffany design elements in the mansion. There’s a comprehensive exhibit of Native American artifacts, including many spearheads, axe heads, arrow tips, clay pots, and other items. There’s also a simulated dig site, a birch lodge, and a birchbark canoe. The signs give a great overview of Native American civilization over the millennia right here in Wisconsin. We stuck around to watch the Apostle clock chime the hour. What a fascinating piece of craftsmanship, I definitely recommend seeing it. Another fun thing to do is check out Grannie’s attic, a fun hodge-podge of old treasures that’s sure to bring back memories. See more..

Fred Smith's Wisconsin Concrete Park image
I first discovered Fred Smith's sculptures over 30 years ago, and to this day I find them to be bot amusing and powerful. Using primarily concrete and beer bottles, (broken or whole), this man produced impressive sculpture of both life as he knew it and he imagined it in other places. If I'm in the area during the day, I'll generally stop and take a stroll through the park. The sculptures always bring a smile to my face. See more..

    Timm's Hill County Park image
WOW. 360 degrees of fall colors. If that’s not peak I don’t know what is. Short hike 300yards. So glad we made the trip. Surrounding trails wide and maintained. We like a bit more adventure on our trails so skipped more hiking and did tower twice. By 4pm the crowds were thinning. People were respectful and tried to social distance on tower. Zero toilet paper in vault restroom but it had to have been a very busy day. Drive in from Hayward enjoyable too. Staying at Ribb Waters Inn which was close and inexpensive. Pictures never do it justice. See more..

    - Very impressed with their proactive rules for COVID!!

    Nueske's image
We always love their smoked meats (bacon, ham, pork chops), so we knew we would get meat---a cooler full. However, I want to give them kudos for operating during COVID. They only allow ten people in the store at one time. Masks are required. People are distanced when they line up to gain access to the store. One of their employees opens the door for people to go in. There is a hand sanitizer station as you leave the cashier. I was very comfortable shopping there, and I appreciate it! See more..
  30. 3.5 Ice Castles (45 reviews)
    - Fun for the family
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Ice Castles image
This was my first time visiting this temporary winter attraction. The work done on the building of the structures was great and the lighting was very nice. For the admission price, it didn't seem as though the entire attraction was very large, but I don't have previous years for comparison. I went just at sunset and the parking are still had plenty of open spots to park (this may have been due to covid-related attendance limits). There are some covered areas that had very soft snow, so individuals with walking difficulties may need extra care. There were two separate slide areas for kids (the larger, dual slide allows adults). There was also a photo opportunity as you enter, if you don't have your own camera or are timid in asking someone else to take a photo of you. See more..

As others have written, it definitely is an eery feeling when your car starts rolling backwards uphill. After you roll backwards get out of the car and check out the finger prints from the angels who just pushed your car backwards up the hill. See more..

    - Cannot get inside but the rock is huge
Wednesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Rock in the House image
I read other reviews that said the owner has hand written notes around the home for visitors to read and explore. Sadly, due to Covid 19 the door was locked in front, boarded closed in back. The site is in town, on the river road. Which makes it easy to find. I recommend parking in the street, as the road is busy and it would be unpleasant to try backing out of the small driveway. Since you may only walk around the property at this time, it is a very quick visit. The rock is truly something to see in person. It is worth a quick stop if you have the time. See more..

  39. 4.5 Historic Indian Agency House (25 reviews)
    - Great exhibits, tour was only ok
Wednesday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Historic Indian Agency House image
The exhibits were really good and a lot of period items. Unfortunately for our group, our guide was a bit inexperienced and couldn't answer all of our questions, though he did know most of them. We were there in an off time and maybe the more experienced ones work busier times. The house contains lots of period furniture, but what we went for was to learn more about the service performed by the Indian agent and the Native Americans. Here it was quite informative and they had quite a few exhibits pertaining to the many Native American tribes in the North. It is a beautiful setting. Parking is plentiful and admission is $6 senior and veterans are free. Thank you for that. See more..

    - Great views and hike
Wednesday: 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges • Scenic Walking Areas
    Swinging Bridge image
Visited the Swinging Bridge with the family (kids are 7 & 10). Glen Park above has lots to do- a couple of playgrounds, picnic tables, a splash pad (was open), and a pool (looked closed for COVID). The bridge had a great view of the river below. We took a dirt path basically straight down from the bridge to the river below right next to the 1st falls. The climb was steep. There is also a paved path that leads down to the 2nd falls. From there you can walk along the river to the other waterfall. When we went I think there was some extra water. They had gotten 9 inches earlier in the week, so a couple of places we took our shoes off to cross. Normally you might not have to. This was the first time we had been there. Recommend wearing water shoes and a swim suit as you can walk along (in) the river and swim in the water by the falls under the bridge. The area is really pretty! Recommend a stop to see! See more..

    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Lottie Cooper Shipwreck image
I have never seen a display like this and I really enjoyed it! I'm a history buff in general and seeing this actual shipwreck, reclaimed and reconstructed was fascinating to me. It was the next best thing to scuba diving and viewing the wreck. I loved seeing and understanding the size of the ship and seeing the construction. The signs explaining the information about the ship were helpful but one problem was that some of them need repair, being worn and impossible to read. I hope the city of Sheboygan is able to maintain this display and its signs for people in the future. It's unique and quite informative! See more..

We stopped in this past weekend with family, toddlers, teens & adults. We all really enjoyed the Hatchery. We were outside looking at the main trout pond and one of the Hatchery Employees-Craig came out and gave the kids some fish food to throw into the pond and answered a bunch a questions for us. He made it a fantastic visit! See more..
