4.5St. Mary Lake(387 reviews) - St Mary Lake is a Beautiful Blue Color Bodies of Water
We came on Monday, 8/31. Because we could not find a parking spot at the small lot for St Mary Falls, we ended up parking at the Sun Point large parking lot and inadvertently hiked that trail to go to St Mary Falls and it took us around St Mary Lake. It was a pleasant surprise because where the trail head starts, you walk along the lake and you get to see all the trees that have been burned by wildfire. The scenery was quite beautiful. The water was a beautiful blue color and the trail was not too difficult. However, if you hike to all 3 waterfalls (Baring, St Mary and Virginia), it will be 7 miles round trip (took us 3.5 hours) which I thought was a little too long. My favorite was St Mary Falls so if I had to do over, I would have skipped the extra 1.6 miles round trip to Virginia Falls. I did really enjoy the views of St Mary Lake and I do recommend the Sun Point Trail.See more..

4.0Berkeley Pit(348 reviews) - Take the trolley tour Bodies of Water • Lookouts • Mines
I highly recommend taking the two hour trolley tour offered by the Butte Chamber of Commerce. Going to the Berkeley Pit is one of the main attractions and is included with the tour. The tour guide gave quite a bit of history of the town and the mines. Doesn't sugarcoat it. Explains how the pit is a giant toxic lake that kills birds so they have noises and drones to keep the birds away when they're migrating. Also explained the the extensive cleanup that had to be done in the entire city to include the creek that polluted rivers miles away. Basically the entire city is a superfund cleanup site that has cost billions of dollars. They've made good progress though. Definitely interesting to see the pit from the viewing area. The only drawback of the tour was no one was wearing masks and one person on the tour was wearing a T-shirt that proudly stated she was vaccinated by the blood of Jesus. Oh boy.See more..

Located in a quieter part of Glacier National Park, Two Medicine Lake boasts a gorgeous reflective lake and multiple hiking trails. Explore the lake on a boat tour—make a reservation online to secure a spot—or rent a rowboat, canoe, paddleboard, or kayak. Keep a keen lookout: you might spot a moose, mountain goats, or even the occasional grizzly bear. The kid-friendly quarter-mile hike to Running Eagle Falls is a popular and easy hike from the lake, along with the Twin Falls hike. The lake also has picnic areas and a campground that's on a first-come-first-serve basis. – TripadvisorSee more..

5.0Sacred Dancing Cascade(17 reviews) - Another beautiful spot on The Going to the Sun Road. Several adventures here. Bodies of Water
I'm not sure why this is listed as West Glacier when it is well inside the park boundaries. Located about 12.5 miles north of the west entrance it is a focal point on the ride. The bridge spanning McDonald Creek allows for pictures from numerous perspectives. The cascade is just several yards north of the bridge. Another important feature about this location is that it is an opportune spot to pick up three converging trails; Horse Loop, John Lake Loop and Upper McDonald Creek Trail. I spent the better part of the afternoon here exploring and hiking!See more..

4.5Dailey Lake(8 reviews) - Beautiful spot Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
This is one of my favorite places near Livingston, Montana. This is such a beautiful lake. They have lots of outhouses around the lake and there is a boat launch here as well. My brother caught one of the largest trouts I've ever seen in this lake, so we try and go here to catch some fish whenever possible. It shows that there are walleye and trout in this lake, but they can be a little shy about jumping on your line. We were shut out this year, just fyi. It does get a little windy here, just fyi. But it's in a wonderful setting and is definitely worth checking out. There are weeds near the shoreline, so if you have waders I would bring them as you might have better luck catching the big one. It's a little bit of a drive to get back here, but definitely worth it.See more..

4.0Sacagawea Springs(8 reviews) - Hike to Sacagawea Springs Bodies of Water
This is a bit of a long trail for small kids (4 miles round trip) but my kids (ages 3 and 6) did pretty well. There were a few steep places and a couple places near the edge of a drop off. Once in a while the trails confused us. There was lots of little trails, but they all basically lead to the same place, so it all worked out. We had a great time!See more..

On of my favorite pass times when the weather permits, is checking out Montana state parks. I had been at the Natural Pier Bridge in Alberton so this was a logical stop. The park is fairly large with well maintained open areas. It is for day use only and offers less activities then many of the other state parks. That being said it is very family friendly. There is a play area with a jungle gym and swings, perfect for young kids and the large green areas are perfect for adult activities. There are numerous picnic tables as well as grills and pavilions for group activities The pond's beach is perfect for sunning and relaxing. Other activities include swimming, fishing, ice skating and boating. This is a great place for a family's day outing.See more..

5.0Freezout Lake(4 reviews) - A Prairie Jewel Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
Freezeout Lake is Montana's primary snow goose staging area, a place where as many as 300,000 snow geese and 10,000 tundra swans gather and rest before flying onward. In Spring, the snow geese head for Alberta and central Saskatchewan in Canada. There they mass with hundreds of thousands of other snow geese from Texas and other Gulf Coast States. In a series of shorter flights, the geese then make their way to nesting grounds on the wind swept, extreme northwest Arctic coast of Canada. The Snow Geese usually reach Freezeout Lake in early March, where they rest up from a nearly 1,000 mile flight from California. Best viewing of the birds is from sunrise to 10:00am and from 4:30pm until sunset. Binoculars, telescopes, a light lunch, and possibly warm clothing will make your viewing more enjoyable.See more..
4.0Leigh Lake(4 reviews) - Definitely not easy. Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
Don't let the mile and a half distance fool you. You will earn this one. The trail begins in the back of the parking lot and climbs the entire way. The first half is just forest floor. This will become rocky, but easily walkable until the waterfall. From here it gets difficult. It's steep with a lot of loose shale and gravel underfoot. You'll need to watch your step on the way up, more so on the way down. Don't expect to do this one quickly. Definitely not recommended for small children.See more..
