  1. 4.0 Berkeley Pit (348 reviews)
    - Take the trolley tour

I highly recommend taking the two hour trolley tour offered by the Butte Chamber of Commerce. Going to the Berkeley Pit is one of the main attractions and is included with the tour. The tour guide gave quite a bit of history of the town and the mines. Doesn't sugarcoat it. Explains how the pit is a giant toxic lake that kills birds so they have noises and drones to keep the birds away when they're migrating. Also explained the the extensive cleanup that had to be done in the entire city to include the creek that polluted rivers miles away. Basically the entire city is a superfund cleanup site that has cost billions of dollars. They've made good progress though. Definitely interesting to see the pit from the viewing area. The only drawback of the tour was no one was wearing masks and one person on the tour was wearing a T-shirt that proudly stated she was vaccinated by the blood of Jesus. Oh boy. See more..

If you are driving along the Going-to-the-Sun Road in the eastern part of Glacier National Park, I highly recommend stopping at the Jackson Glacier overlook. This is perhaps one of the easiest ways to get a view of a glacier within Glacier National Park without having to do any hiking whatsoever. The Jackson Glacier Overlook is built up with lots of available parking and nice views of surrounding mountains. Although the view of the glacier is limited by surrounding trees, it does allow you to plainly see the Jackson Glacier at a distance. It is definitely worth a quick stop to take a few pictures and enjoy the scenery. See more..

This was such a fun stop for us. On a hot summer day we had family members get into the waterfalls to cool off for a exhilarating cool down. The views are spectacular from the stop. The road is a bit narrow but no problem for us excitement seekers. See more..

I can’t believe this wasn’t listed before now. This is the signature view looking at Wild Goose Island. This lookout overlooks Wild Goose Island and St. Mary’s Lake. There are some “trails” that lead all the way to the water, and sometimes there are even Moose. Not today, just a beautiful view, great pictures, and lifelong memories. See more..

Clay Butte Fire Lookout Tower image
On our way to Beartooth pass , we saw this firetower WAAAAY up on the mountain top...I'm sooo glad we turned in to check it out. Its a fairly good climb, probably 2!/2 miles and steep in some places , but on a well maintained road. Arriving at the tower your greeted with on of the most awesome nearly 300 degree view that you have ever seen , simply amazing site. We missed it but ppl told us earlier in the day a couple grizzlies and a herd of about 70 elk passed by on the ridge just above the tower .. Picture can't capture what you can see See more..

Because I am in Kalispell in the winter, getting to the east side of Glacier National Park is dicey and the window of getting to Rising Sun is small. On this trip everything worked in my favor and I was able to hike a bit down GTTS Rd. One of the highlights was the view from Wild Goose Island Lookout. It is spectacular to see this small island surrounded by the blue waters of the lake and the shear rock cliffs of the mountains. It is one of the first of many dramatic and stunning views as you start down through the park. See more..
