We stayed one night on our way to Yellowstone and it was just a perfect Montana experience. We stayed in a covered wagon, which we think was the best thing about our stay. The view was amazing and as we were looking down onto the hotel, thought wow the folks staying in the hotel are missing out. The wagon was a lot bigger inside and was perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids (and the only hotel room around Yellowstone with air conditioning). I can't rave more about the wagon experience. The shower rooms were brand new and were spa like. If you have younger kids, this is a must stay, they will never forget it. See more..

  6. 5.0 Jerry Johnson Hot Springs (1 review)
    - A spectacular duo~A Hike and a Hot Springs
Saturday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Hiking Trails • Hot Springs & Geysers
    Jerry Johnson Hot Springs image
This is a remote location in the heart of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest. The closest towns for reference are Lolo, Montana about and hour east of the trail head and Kooskia, Idaho about an hour and a half to the west. The trail head is marked as Warm Springs Trail #49. Once you find this you will realize it is worth the effort. The parking area is on the north side of US 12, cross the highway and the the hike starts as you cross the bridge over the Lochsa River. The trail is pretty short around a mile (1.6 km) or so to the furthest pool and follows Warm Springs Creek. The first pool is just a half mile (.9 km) out. The trail is pretty easy under normal conditions, however on this January day there was lots of slick icy spots. I took my first really good fall of the winter. The pools are amazing and it was a bit surreal sitting under a clear, sunny sky surrounded by pines, cedar and ponderosa trees, and snow. This is clothing optional! It was disheartening to see the clothes, towels and garbage left behind so be respectful~ Carry it in, carry it out!!! See more..
