Interesting place with plenty of information about the history of the dam, as well as some paleontic and prehistoric information about the area (including some dinosaur replicas), wildlife in the area and the Lewis & Clark expedition. Three films are shown (one on the building of the dam, another on the Lewis & Clark Expedition, and a third on the CM Russell Wildlife Refuge). This would be a great place to start a trip through the area, of you have never been. See more..

Ravalli County Museum and Historical Society image
Ok, as a seasoned traveler, I have gone to all the Mega Museums of the world. The collections are usually breathtaking, but I place the smaller museums of the world on a different level. Smaller locations may not have the extensive collections, but they can tell you something about the local history and culture. This museum had many interesting exhibits and local history. Usually these locations are staffed by locals and it is possible to gain some insight of the area though the staff interaction. I had the opportunity to interact with a few staffers, and Heidi went out of her way to assist visitors with a variety of needs. She was an excellent choice for manning the front desk. Really enjoyed myself, and with their history of rotating exhibits, there may be something new on my next visit. Check out their FB page for upcoming events. Excellent job! See more..

I thought I knew something about mineral and mining but most of my information came from reality TV John Foley the curator of the museum taught me more about silver and copper and lead in chemistry of stone than I ever knew. I highly recommend this place to someone who wants to know the nitty-gritty of mining and not just what’s happenedOn Yukon Gold See more..
