We Only Went to the Overlook - Nice Hike if You Can Get a Parking Spot at Logan Pass
After hiking on the Highline, we hiked the Hidden Lake Overlook. This trail is mostly on boardwalk but there are many steps up. It is about 3 miles round trip and it took us around 2 hours. We came on Tuesday, 9/1. It was also a bit windy. Because we were planning to do the Highline that day, we got to the Logan Pass Parking lot early at 7 am. The Logan Pass lot fills up early in the day and if you miss going early in the morning, you will need to be very lucky or get there late afternoon if you want to do the Hidden Lake Overlook. Also, I overheard the rangers saying they spotted a bear. We brought bear spray but since this trail is frequented by many people, it really wasn't needed.

Hiked in the snow in July and saw a LOT of wildlife on this trail
We hiked to the Hidden Lake overlook in July, and it was one of our favorite trails. Our family of 4, including two boys 18 and 20, went to hike this trail at about 3:30pm. We had heard that it was easier to find parking at Logan Pass in the late afternoon, and this proved to be true, as there were a few dozen spaces available. We were wearing, and I would recommend, waterproof hiking shoes, hiking pants, and a warm jacket. It is considerably cooler at this location than other locations in the park. The hike begins just outside the Logan Pass visitor center on a boardwalk surrounded by a wildflower meadow. When you have hiked to the part where there is snow, you will find that there is snow most of the rest of the way up. The hike goes mostly uphill (at a gradual incline), and since it is in the snow, it can be challenging, even with the appropriate footwear. Along the way up, we saw at least 5 big horn sheep. They were very close to, and sometimes on the trail. The trail was not crowded when we were there though, and the other hikers were also all considerate of the wildlife. As we got closer to the overlook, we saw some mountain goats, and at the actual overlook, we saw a mother and baby mountain goat. We did not see any bears on this hike. The overlook to the lake is beautiful, and there were also several marmots there enjoying the view. For the hike back down, there are new challenges because now you are hiking downhill in the snow. My boys had a great idea, and at one point we all just sat down and slid down the hill. We all had so much fun doing this, and it was much easier than hiking down!
