Hebgen Lake, Montana, United States
4.5 (72 reviews) Spent Ranking #9 in West Yellowstone Bodies of Water
Beautiful mountain lake
This was far less busy than the rest of the area. We camped in the state forest campground but might try the glamping site next door next time. Far enough out that the noise and traffic was gone. Close enough that you could get anywhere in 10 min.

Stay at this lake, not in Yellowstone
We stayed at Rainbow Point campground which is right next to this lake, specifically the Grayling Arm. I recommend staying at Hebgen Lake and not in Yellowstone if you require some amenities while touring this region (cell service is good here) and only 15 minutes from West Yellowstone. We fished this lake and caught so many Utah Chub we got exhausted and had to stop fishing (we were trying to catch rainbows). The lake was not busy during the week but was busy the weekend. Boats can pull right up to shore and beach for the day. Many families were having BBQ's on the beach. There is a nice boat launch in the Grayling Arm. The beech has decent quality black sand. The color of the sand is beautiful and unique from what I have seen around the world. Highly recommend

Beautiful
Beautiful lake, we rented stand up paddle boards from Kirkwood Marina for two hours and had a great time. The lake is fairly calm and cool. There were some motor boats and kayaks on the water as well.
