Sacred Dancing Cascade, Montana, United States

5.0 (17 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in West Glacier Bodies of Water

Another beautiful spot on The Going to the Sun Road. Several adventures here.

I'm not sure why this is listed as West Glacier when it is well inside the park boundaries. Located about 12.5 miles north of the west entrance it is a focal point on the ride. The bridge spanning McDonald Creek allows for pictures from numerous perspectives. The cascade is just several yards north of the bridge. Another important feature about this location is that it is an opportune spot to pick up three converging trails; Horse Loop, John Lake Loop and Upper McDonald Creek Trail. I spent the better part of the afternoon here exploring and hiking!

    Something beautiful for everyone
We did the Upper MacDonald Lake trail (about 5 miles out-and-back), which I fervently recommend. It was beautiful, easy, and serene the entire way. We went early in the morning and saw only a few people on our side of the stream. The falls are gorgeous, but the forest is equally lovely.

    Beautiful low falls
We viewed the cascades twice. The first time was from the parking area off Going to the Sun Road. From there a short, easy, tail takes you to a viewing point. The next day we walked the Johns Lake Loop and that provided us with a view of the cascades from the other side of McDonald Creek.
