4.5Castillo de San Marcos National Monument(11.0k reviews) - Good historical representation of the importance of the fort to the city's history. Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites • Castles • Monuments & Statues
Really enjoyed our visit. Use your national parks card for free entry. Self guided tour using literature from ticket booth. Recommend entering the fort, and then turning left and visiting the rooms in a clockwise motion (this way you'll visit the exhibits in their chronological order) until you've completed the ground level, then proceed to the upper level for some great views. A bit more interaction from available Rangers/Reenactors would have been good, but seemed staff inside the fort was limited.See more..

4.5Old Jail Museum(2.916 reviews) - Great stop for history fans Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites
The Old Jail Museum is in a complex north of the colonial town that has a number of activites, tours and shops. The workers in the complex all dress up like they're from the 1800s and walk around acting their parts. For example, there was a convict in stripes looking gruff and angry walking around and grumbling about the unfair treatment, hangmans noose, etc. He totally stayed in character when I said "How can they just let the criminals walk the streets here." Then he followed us around a bit. It was really funny. We had only a few hours, so we did the Oldest Store Museum tour and it was so much fun. The gentleman guide was a salesman and he played up the part in really cute ways. Very interactive and fun tour - and so cool to see all the old contraptions!! We were sad to not have time to do everything and will 100% be back.See more..

4.5Kingsley Plantation(721 reviews) - Great experience Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Historic Sites
What an experience! This is an eye-opening glimpse into a world I never could have imagined. It’s a small trek to get there (in a low car and a few potholes), but SO totally worth it. We popped in our own AirPods and accessed the stories via the National Park’s website and spent almost 2 hours touring through the words of both a narrator and various actors portraying the experiences of the different people who lived on this once vibrant plantation. The stories really just brought everything to life and made everything so real. The park service people there were awesome-friendly and approachable and very knowledgeable about their history. If you’re even partially interested, check this place out!See more..

I love Historic Cocoa because it is partially a glimpse of an old Florida town, partially because of the eclectic mix of bars and restaurants located in a compact area and also because it offers a vastly different experience than beachside but it is super easy and cheap to get to. If you are in town for a couple days, a lunch or dinner in Cocoa Village will be worth it. I know this sounds like. Chamber of Commerce ad, it’s not. I love this area, am a TA fanatic, and want people to experience great places and if possible, like a local.See more..

I visited this beautiful site while on a quick trip to the area. Of course the site was closed due to the virus. I was walking up the the visitors center and the caretaker on duty stepped out to say Hi. There was myself and two other couples within earshot when he (His name was Jesse, I believe) offered to deliver his presentation outside at the front door of the plantation. We all anxiously said YES and Jesse went on to deliver a fact-filled, colorful presentation about the Park and the history of the area. His presentation turned what was going to be a dull walk thru the Park, into a memorable highlight of my day. It was great to interact with Jesse who could obviously be seen enjoying his work.See more..

Quick stop. There is a picnic pavilion across the street where the parking is. About half of the informative signage is missing so you can guess what you are looking at. There was a person who seemed to be down on his luck or homeless under the picnic pavilion. Based on the other listings, this seems to be a hangout for folks not at their best Be aware of a surprisingly large amount of traffic when backing out of parking spots. Pros: has rest rooms, it's across the road from the parking lot, it is free, and you should be done in 4-10 minutes.See more..
