My wife and i visited today, March 30 and the everglades was more than i expected. The park was almost completely empty, it was really terrific. The rangers were very helpful and gave us great suggestions. The Anhinga Trail loop was possibly the best part. The ranger told us that it is like an aquarium and he was spot on. We could see over a dozen fish at a time in some spots, as well as herons, a turtle and 4 gators. This hike as well as pine lands, Pay-hay-okee overlook, mahogany hammock and west lake are all short trails that are less than 1/2 mile. All offer diverse ecosystems and different features. The flamingo visitor center appears to just be temporary as a new structure is being worked on. At the nearby marina we saw manatees popping up now and then. We were told that between May and the fall the mosquitoes are vicious. Sorry i cannot speak much for the northern end of the park. We made the most of our one day here! See more..

One of the most beautiful pristine places I have ever visited in my life. As we drove through the park we were pretty much alone. We kept wondering when we were going to see other cars at one point we stopped and in the lagoon or lake that’s on the opposite side of the ocean we saw a huge alligator. We don’t see those too often in Illinois lol actually they don’t have them in Illinois. So that was really something for us to experience. The $20 that you pay to go into the park is well worth it. The beaches are absolutely beautiful and basically untouched. We will definitely go again on our next trip to Florida. My two oldest grandchildren 14 and 17 loved it. See more..
  5. 5.0 Homestead Trolley-Everglades National Park (2 reviews)
    - Everglades National Park
    Spent 2-3 hours National Parks
Everglades National Park is a beautiful large park with several entrances. The Homestead Trolley is one way to get here. I enjoy the Homestead entrance, the Anhinga Trail, a boardwalk 0.8 mile of boardwalk, you always see an alligator, many birds, great white egrets, great blue herons, wood storks, cormorants,, moorhen. The Pinelands Trail is near, its another half mile boardwalk, but the environment is pine forest. You also have the Mahogony Hammock Trail also half a mile an almost Tarzan movie setting. Then you have half mile of West Lake through mangroves, the boardwalk ends, hurricane damage has not been repaired. See more..
