  5. 4.5 Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center (332 reviews)
    - Excellent place to see the southern Everglades
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Visitor Centers
Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center image
Having already visited the Shark Valley area of the Everglades, we wanted to see the southern area on this visit. The Ernest Coe Center is a great way to begin your journey as the center includes a small museum, restrooms and a gift shop. The center contained much information including the Nike Missile site, various trails and a map for those wishing to drive the entire road through this part of the park, which is about 29 miles each way. The visitor center hours are 9-5. We found the rangers to be very helpful when describing the various activities within this section of the park. At the center, we only spent about 45 minutes before spending several hours touring the park and it's various trails and the Nike site. Well worth starting here to get the information you need. - Excellent Visitor Info Center
Saturday: 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Visitor Centers
Clearwater Beach Visitor Information Center image
Clearwater Beach Visitor Information Center can successfully compete with many info centers alike on many aspects. First of all, its location is totally perfect: it is right near the Clearwater Beach, Pier 60 and Pier 60 Park (a very nice and spacious park!), close to all hotels, restaurants, shops and other businesses in the area, close to the public transportation stops, to the ever exciting marina, and to the Clearwater Memorial Causeway. Most of all, despite its visibly tiny dimensions, this visitor information center is an invaluable source of useful info on all-things-useful-practical-and-fun in Clearwater and actually, on many other sites in different towns and cities of Central Florida. They have tons of free printed brochures, magazines and various types of maps in this center. And the main thing is their superb service: it is friendly, personable and very helpful. See more..

  11. 5.0 Dudley Farm Historic State Park (80 reviews)
    - A trip back in time
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Visitor Centers • Speciality Museums • Parks
Dudley Farm Historic State Park image
Dudley Farm near Gainesville is an early pioneer farm established before the Civil War. Currently it covers 325 of the original 640 acres that were operated by the Dudley family for three generations. An authentic working farm, the homestead consists of eighteen buildings. These are restored - NOT recreated - and include the family farmhouse with original furnishings, an 1880's kitchen outbuilding, a general store and post office, and a cane syrup complex. Park staff in period clothing perform daily chores, raising crops, and tending to livestock. The farm features seasonal cane grindings, corn shuckings, and heritage varieties of livestock and plants. Deer, wild turkeys, gopher tortoises, and bluebirds are still seen in the fields. Our hope is that it will become not simply a static historic site, but rather a living laboratory where future Floridians can step back in time to feel what it is like to till the earth, plow a field, plant a crop, bring the harvest in, mark the changes of the seasons, and like the Dudleys, call a place home. 14. 4.5 Florida Welcome Center (23 reviews)
    - Great place to stop before continuing into FL
Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
    Florida Welcome Center image
Every time we re-enter FL, we hope we can go into the Welcome Center to sample the OJ and see their latest promotion. It's open until 5PM, and we arrived at 4:30. This time the promotion was Capt. Citrus joining the Avengers in a comic book. Capt. Citrus also had wrist bands, bandaids, and a word puzzle sheet. As usual, lots of brochures and maps were inside, available for us adults, as well as the opportunity to purchase a Sun Pass to save on tolls. In addition to the yellow dolphin out front, their is a place inside to pose with an astronaut. We saw families taking advantage of these photo opportunities. The bathrooms are outside, open 24/7, on both sides of the welcome center. Last time we were here, 2 months ago, soap was only in every third dispenser. This time, they were all full. Also outside are more maps and informational brochures. The area is landscaped beautifully, so take time to walk around. See more..

But a few minutes spent on this site, followed hopefully by a visit sometime in the near future, and the story changes in a big way. Gainesville isn't just a great college town. It's a great town. Period. It's where nature and culture meet. Where trees draped in Spanish moss line quaint Old South inspired streets. Where a cozy quintessential downtown exudes hospitality, comfort, and at times, a certain refined ease in its shops and restaurants. Where state parks are a virtual playground of world-class natural attractions, sinkholes, waterways and waterfalls, shady pine forests, flora and fauna, and amazing NATURAL North Florida sunsets. And where the surrounding towns like High Springs, Alachua, Cross Creek and Micanopy dial-up the charm even further each in their own individual way. Looking for iconic locations in Gainesville to take photos? We've got you covered. So, welcome to Gainesville. It's a little of what you might expect, and a lot of what you wouldn't. 22. 4.0 Dante Fascell Visitor Center (2 reviews)
    - Excellent Staff and Nature Walk
    Saturday: Visitor Centers
    Dante Fascell Visitor Center image
I stopped at the Biscayne National Park visitor center for a brief visit as I only had about an hour available. I walked through the indoor exhibits and learned a great deal about the bay and it’s flora and fauna. The staff were extremely friendly and provided a lot of information (and bug spray) about the park and activities available. The weather was rainy, but I did take a walk along the boardwalk and through the mangroves along a jetty to get better views of the bay. While a boat trip is preferable in Biscayne National Park, this was a nice place to stop considering I only had a little time available. Next time, armed with a better knowledge of the boat tours and snorkeling available, I plan to see more of this park. See more..
  23. 5.0 Dunedin Chamber Of Commerce (1 review)
    - Stop Here 1st
Saturday: 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM Visitor Centers
The Dunedin Chamber/Visitors center is located in an attractive brick building right in the middle of this cool little town. The staff was extremely helpful and proud of all Dunedin had to offer and must agree after just visiting the incredible Beatle Museum a block away. There are great maps of many kinds including a beer trail where you can walk to 8 breweries in less than a mile. Brochure's, event calendars and more and the staff was full of suggestions. I would definitely make this your 1st stop when visiting this neat little town. See more..
