If you are visiting South Florida, the Everglades are a must. This national park is an hour from downtown Miami and its expansive, subtle beauty is unlike anything you have ever seen. At the south entrance nearest to Homestead, inside the Ernest F. Coe VIsitor's Center, there is a new gallery which features work by AIRIE Fellows. Artists in Residence in Everglades hosts visual artists, writers, performers, musicians and dancers for one month, giving them the opportunity to immerse themselves in this wild beauty, and learn first hand its ecology, history and challenges. Their work is then incorporated into exhibitions in the AIRIE Nest such as a recent one, "About Florida Bay", which featured contemporary artworks, videos and poetry, that addressed this body of water between the Everglades and the Florida Keys, home to imperiled fish and bird life. Stop in the Coe Center and make sure to spend time in the AIRIE Nest to make sure that your visit to the Everglades includes the insight of an artist. See more..
