An Overview of Life on Pine Island
We often start our visit to Pine and Bocilla Islands with a stop at this museum. It gives our visitors an idea of where they are and why that area is important.

Inexpensive and interesting way to learn about Pine Island history
As a genealogy junkie, it is hard to pass up a little historical museum, and this one was a treat. The Museum of the Islands is located in the former public library in what appears to be "downtown" Pine Island. The volunteers were really friendly and knowledgeable and toured us around, but you can take an audio tour if you prefer. I like the interactive question and answer portion so that worked great for me. There was lots of local history, nature and craft exhibits when we were there, and the shell exhibit included thousands of shells, and fossils from a local archaeological site. Inexpensive -- think it was $2.00 per person when we stopped. Easy parking in a lot by the tennis courts. Word to the wise, check the hours because they are limited.
