    Clematis Street image
The History of Clematis Street & West Palm Beach Henry Flagler A history of the Clematis Street District or of West Palm Beach cannot be told without mentioning the name of Henry Flagler. Anyone who has been in Florida for even a short amount of time will recognize the name. It's all over Florida roads, bridges and beaches as well as countless other monuments and museums. Flagler's Dream: Palm Beach Henry Flagler co-founded Standard Oil Company with John D. Rockefeller and also built the Florida railroad from Jacksonville to Key West. He came to the West Palm Beach area in 1893. After being impressed with the natural beauty of the area, he sought to create the most famous resort in the world, Palm Beach. The resort would be conveniently accessible by his own railroad. He built two major hotels, The Breakers and the Royal Poinciana Hotel (later destroyed by a hurricane). He also built what is now West Palm Beach directly across Lake Worth for the service people who worked on the island and as a commercial district. Clematis Street Not only is it one of the trendiest places to be today, it also boasts a long and important history. Clematis Street began as the main thoroughfare of West Palm Beach in the early 20th century. It connected the train station on the west with the ferry to Palm Beach Island on the east. Early 20th Century: Storefronts logically multiplied and lined each way, as Clematis became the "Main Street" of West Palm Beach. The commuters of the day would traverse Clematis Street and frequent these shops before and after work, much like we do today. It's many older buildings display a fascinating journey through South Florida history. Automobiles Change Everything Eventually automobiles, bridges and highways replaced the train, ferry and buggies as the main means of transportation. While once the train station was the link to the outside world, visitors could now arrive via various routes. Okeechobee Boulevard would eventually become the main connec... See more..

  30. 4.5 Cape San Blas (664 reviews)
    - Interesting area of dunes and sand
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Cape San Blas image
Very interesting area in panhandle. Beautiful beaches like you see everywhere in panhandle, wide, clean and very white. We have been very surprised by the cleanliness of the beaches in this area compared with Destin area. The unique thing is how fast the multi- million dollar homes on this narrow strip devastated by Hurricane Michael have been built. While in Texas we visited North Padre and Port Arransas which was hit in 2018 by Harvey and they pulled building back away from shore by at least a couple blocks. Here a Category 5 hits, whips it clean and they are building even bigger right on shore. But the beaches are pretty and still accessible and it’s a scenic drive out to the park. Stock up on food , beverage and gas before heading out. Services and stores are limited See more..

I really love the look and feel of downtown St Petersburg. I’m not sure what it is, maybe its the architecture or the salt sea air, but it’s definitely got a Mediterranean flavor to it: sort of a mix between between Nice and Monica but on a smaller scale. People were out and about early enjoying coffee and a croissant at the sidewalk cafe’s much like they do in the south of France. Others were strolling along the harbor or sitting under the banyan tree soaking up the sun. And lets not forget the swish boutiques where one can easily part with ones hard earned money. I haven't even started on the Dali or Chihuly Museum or the free Downtown Looper Trolley that takes you there, Dang but I want to move here. See more..

Downtown Gulfport is just a great place to be. My parents recently purchased a condo in Town Shores in the Buckingham building. While there we rented a boat from the marina, and toured the intercostal, where there is so much sea life. We observed rays, dolphins, birds and fish. We also visited- downtown with shopping and many bar and restaurants, the beach and pier, all so nice. The marina is very clean if you need a boat slip, or just want to rent a boat for the day. You can fish off the pier or play volleyball on the beach. So nice we would consider retiring here as well. See more..

    DeBary Hall Historic Site image
DeBary Hall Historic Site is a magnificent 19th century hunting estate overlooking the St. Johns River in DeBary, Florida. The site is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and includes DeBary Hall, the oldest intact building in southwest Volusia County. Built in 1871, DeBary Hall was the winter retreat of a European-born wine merchant who chose the St. Johns River country for his hunting estate. Frederick deBary tried his hand at orange growing and commercial steamboating, but his Florida estate became a center of sport hunting and hospitality. Today’s historic site covers 10 acres and includes the 8,000-square-foot hunting lodge, stables and other structures. We invite you to explore history at DeBary Hall Historic Site. You’ll find remarkable buildings, a treasure trove of historical images, and many good stories. See more..

    Tervis Tumbler image
I was amazed at the different designs of this tumbler, both stainless and plastics! And I was lucky that they had a great special for Father’s Day: BOGO1/2 off..so I was able to get 2 stainless tumblers at a great price! There is a small area with 25% off if you are hunting a deal! They also had replacement parts, like lids , and add ons, like a handle . You are greeted by a friendly salesperson (kudos for masking!) and the shopping area is amazing!! Never will you see so many designs elsewhere!! Highly recommend!! See more..
