Two seniors visited here in late January 2023 and had an excellent day. We literally spent from 10am until 5pm here. Between the actual lighthouse, the shipbuilder’s area (where they are building a couple of actual sea-going boats), the archaeology conservation building and the actual three story museum, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Note that we are history nerds and tend to absorb/read all of the information available, so YMMV in how long you stay. They even offer lighthouse keeper tours for a few dollars more that looked interesting but were all filled up for our available times. The actual museum had exhibits on the lighthouse, the keepers and their families, commercial shrimping in the area, and underwater archaeology they have done in the local rivers including cannons and other artifacts from the Revolutionary War that they have found and are conserving. Well worth your time. Elementary age children and older would most likely find it interesting also.See more..

4.5Florida Holocaust Museum(596 reviews) - Please do not miss this on your trip Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM History Museums
Heartbreaking but we all need to remember the past to prevent the future. The timing of our visit was perfect as I've been in to reading many books on the personal accounts of holocaust survivors. It was chilling to see all of the items in person. What the population endured and the strength of those that survived is just incredible. The biggest chill came when we walked into the room that displayed a box car used. To imagine 140 people, men, women and children, squeezed into this small area for days. Being taken away from their home. Going to an unknown world. Separated. Sometimes knowing the stories of what was to come but often misled to thinking that it would get better at the next stop. Just heartbreaking. I truly recommend families who are visiting the area to take advantage of this history lesson.See more..

We found here a deep sense of patriotism and gratitude and respect on July 4th, when the world is turbulent, history is being questioned or re-written, being able to show appreciation and respect to our veterans on July 4th was very meaningful. The parade had to be "reverse" due to Covid 19 precautions - the parade floats and participant were parked along the highway, huge flag suspended from a fire truck boom and all, and spectators drove by waving flags, honking, giving thanks, cheering and showing gratitude for all those who have served and are serving, and will be serving. We discovered this pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and plan to come back and visit the museum, take more time in the memorial park, and explore the other parts of the park.See more..

Of interest is an exhibit devoted to Black American educator Moore Mickens and to the baseball player, "Mudcat" Grant.See more..

Daytona Beach has a rich and interesting history that would be forgotten if it were not for this gem of a museum. Set in a huge old bank building which has been preserved, the museum has collected artifacts from many periods of history in Daytona Beach. What you will learn here will surprise you. As a kid, I remember all the visits to the beach with my parents in the 60's, but I had no idea that Daytona was the home of the Women's Army Corps in WWII and more. There are great photographs of troops of women marching on the beaches and many artifacts from the war to remind us of how the U.S. had turned itselt into a fortress during the war. This is just a small part of what you wil experience here. The staff appears to be mostly experienced and enthusiastic volunteers from the local community. There is a small gift shop with some very interesting items for purchase. Come here when you are not in a hurry and want to spend some time doing a little time traveling back into history.See more..
