Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, Florida, United States

Good historical representation of the importance of the fort to the city's history.

Really enjoyed our visit. Use your national parks card for free entry. Self guided tour using literature from ticket booth. Recommend entering the fort, and then turning left and visiting the rooms in a clockwise motion (this way you'll visit the exhibits in their chronological order) until you've completed the ground level, then proceed to the upper level for some great views. A bit more interaction from available Rangers/Reenactors would have been good, but seemed staff inside the fort was limited.

    Ticket and parking suggestions
Tickets are $15 per person 15 years and older. I would recommend buying an annual national parks pass for $80 which gets in 3-4 people and is good for a year for all national parks. The cannon firing is only on the weekends Sat/Sun so plan accordingly. It was really hot when we went and the tours were self-guided. We went through it in about an hour. We parked at the visitors center for $15 for the day about a block away and that worked out well. They have a lot of info and lots of clean air conditioned rest rooms. The parking is covered so your car stays cool.
