4.5Eldorado Canyon(381 reviews) - Beautiful rock mtns by stream + climbing Monday: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM Canyons
This beautiful park is only 15 minutes from Boulder. We only had a short time to see this place because of a flight. It was so worth the $10 entry fee (state park so National park passes are not accepted). The pass is good up until noon the day after purchase. The drive is short to the visitor’s center right next to the stream with some picnic tables. We parked close to the Fowler trail and walked as far as we could (? 1/4 mile, about marker 9) as the rest of that trail was currently closed due to rock fall. It was a flat, dirt trail wide enough a wheelchair may be able to go, but it’d be a bit tough since it’s not paved. The view was awesome: trail was right along the edge so you could see the stream as well as the canyon and rock climbers too. We reparked close to the footbridge (crosses the stream) closer to the entrance and then watched rock climbers on both sides of the canyon from the bridge. Would love to go back to spend more time here and see the continental divide. See more..

What a wonderful experience today. My husband and I did the guided auto tour through Picketwire Canyon. Lyn was our guide and was very informative at the many stops we made. The dinosaur tracks were absolutely amazing and walking across the river to see even more tracks was exciting. Take plenty of water and food and don't expect to have phone service. Be sure to read the requirements for this drive at their website.See more..

4.5Picture Canyon(14 reviews) - Fantastic Hike in the Middle of Nowhere Canyons
We had a wonderful time hiking through this special canyon. The petroglyphs were interesting, but shamefully there was a lot of graffiti. That being said, the park is well cared for and they seem to be doing what they can to avoid further damage. We hiked for 5 miles and only saw one other person. The grasslands are a special place, definitely an interesting landscape. There is also a fun arch at the loop mid-point.See more..
If you have a 4x4 to get to trailhead this is real nice trail. Mostly flat trail but it does have one big accent/decent. Road in is rough took 1 hour. Note upper/lower trail is only way in other road is private property well posted keep out. See more..
My family (hubby and I plus 4 kids ages 12-15) just finished the Via Ferrata. We had two guides from Base Camp in Ouray that lead us through. Given that none of us had any prior climbing experience aside from a climbing wall, I’m glad we had guides for this first trip. Next time, I’d be comfortable renting the equipment and going without a guide as the entire experience felt very safe even though we were literally hanging off a rock wall. If you are looking for a unique adventure experience, I highly recommend giving this a try. If this is your first time, both Jason and Owen from Base Camp Ouray (970-318-8104) were exceptional!See more..
4.0McInnis Canyons Conservation Area(7 reviews) - Huge area - many parts and place here Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Canyons • Hiking Trails
It is hard to review McInnis Canyons Conservation Area - it is almost 125,000 square acres. There are hiking, biking, equestrian, and OHV trails through the area. Part of this area includes the Rabbit Valley Trails, Kokopelli Trails, the Fruita Paleo and Devils Canyon Trails, Rattlesnake Canyon, the Old Spanish Trail - really too many to mention. I think having each section called out would be more helpful to the tourist. Living here, we are in different parts of this conservation area at least weekly. Lucky us!See more..
4.0Carrizo Canyon(1 review) - Short Enjoyable Hike Spent 1-2 hours Canyons We wanted to hike in the Comanche National Grasslands, but didn't have much time. Our hotel host recommended Carrizo Canyon. It was quite a drive to Carrizo Canyon on several dirt roads. One ended into a small picnic ground. There’s a short paved trail to an overlook. Nice view from the overlook platform. Now to the ‘real’ trail. It is supposed to be a loop trail about a mile long. Nope! The trail to the right goes along the canyon edge, then drops down to the bottom of the canyon. It continued through the pond to the other side. Yep. Gotta swim to go to the other side. It’s a nice view with a little sandy ‘beach’. But it ends. We retraced our steps to the other branch. Going left, the trail drops pretty quickly down to the canyon bottom and skirts the pond and a little stream. Pretty hike. We went all the other way to the pond, then turned back. There are supposed to be petroglyphs off to a short spur. We went on several spurs. Some graffiti. But no petroglyphs. We had a nice hike. Went further than we anticipated. But it was quite a pleasant day and an enjoyable hike.See more..
