    - A Huge Display of Model Trains - Very Enjoyable
    Monday: Speciality Museums

Ths was one of the largest model train exhibits I personally have seen. Several very long trains running with exhibit buildings, mountains, tunnels, figures, and other items enhancing the train routes. Throughout the exhibit there were various hidden "fun" items to find. Also, it is one of those places where you MUST hit the Red button (and be entertained by what happens). A well thought out exhibit that allows kids and adults the ability to view numerous layouts - most all integrated together. Volunteers come from multiple states to participate in the construction, maintaining, and running of the trains. An amazing model train exhibit - definitely worth the visit. The exhibit is a powerful example of the self-sacrifice of ordinary individuals who have served in harm’s way to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. Some guests choose to sit and reflect at the immense power of the portraits while others enjoy reading the inspiring quotes that accompany each portrait. The Center also includes a World Trade Center (WTC) Steel Memorial located at the Center’s entrance. In 2012 members of the New York City Fire Department visited the Center to dedicate the WTC Steel Memorial. Visitors are reminded of how vital the Center’s core values of honor, integrity and patriotism are to the freedoms we enjoy and to the future of our great country. See more..

The Sasquatch Outpost is arguably the most unique store in Central Colorado. Dedicated to our favorite local "legend" Sasquatch (or Bigfoot), we sell a large selection of Squatch-related merchandise (t-shirts, bumper stickers, signs, mugs etc). And check out the Sasquatch Encounter Discovery Museum, a fascinating journey into Bigfoot Territory - complete with our very own Bigfoot named "Boomer"! It's worth the trip to our wonderful little mountain town :) We also sell seasonal gear for the intrepid "Squatchers", including hiking and camping supplies. So, no worries if you came up to the mountains but forgot that critical piece of camping gear: we've got you covered :) See more..

    MacGregor Ranch Museum image
My husband and I had a couple hours to kill while we were in Estes Park, and he suggested we check out this quaint ranch. We were the only 2 on the tour, but it was the BEST $5.00 you will spend. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the ranch, and the setting was the most BEAUTIFUL around Estes! (And that is saying something!!) I would definitely recommend taking a couple hours and check it out! See more..

Southern Ute Museum and Cultural Center image
Thank you for your interest in the Southern Ute Museum, located on the Southern Ute reservation, and operated by the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, “Ute Seasons”, an exhibit of seasonal relevance for Ute people, begins in the Welcome Gallery. Timber and steel rise 60 feet toward a medicine wheel ceiling, offering a view of the sky. The Permanent Gallery tells the story of Ute people through large photographic curtains, life size replicas, video, audio, touchscreen equipment, and the “Circle of Life”, a multi-screen short film. The Temporary Gallery features “Mountain Lion!” (through September 2017), created by the Center of Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College and the Colorado Division of Wildlife. This family-friendly exhibit features large dioramas, calls of the lion, fossil representations, an informative video about large cats, and many artifacts. A Southern Ute Veterans exhibit, the latest display to be developed at the museum, presents a unique history of tribal members in the military. This exhibit provides cultural, historical, and educational information with panels, photographs, beadwork, basketry, a world map of historical military conflicts, and Navy diving helmet with select equipment. In addition to exhibits, “Behind the Scenes” tours are available. These specialized tours offer a closer look at the Museum’s inner workings, including the journey an object takes, beginning with arrival, to collections, to display. The tour also provides a unique insight and broader perspective of the Southern Ute Museum’s mission and purpose. Tours can accommodate families to large groups. There is a nominal charge, and reservations are required. Please call for more information. On behalf of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, we invite you to visit our Museum, and hope you enjoy your visit to the land of the “Shining Mountains” in beautiful southwest Colorado. See more..

A great museum and the staff is really knowledgeable about the history and the currently running steel mill. Learned a lot about the history and especially the 1913-1914 strike and massacre. So sad. A whole lot of history in the cool former infirmary. Well worth the visit. Also got our grandkids some geodes to smash and uncover! for only $5! See more..
