This is a very challenging trek to see the only volcano left in Colorado. It involves about 3 miles of winding uphill gravel roads past a trailer park and up hills to see the volcano's crater. The drive was very challenging for my Buick sedan, which doesn't handle loose gravel well. The crater is not marked as such, I had to use Google maps and satellite view to determine my parking spot was by the rim of the crater. This trip is best recommended for travelers with 4WD vehicles. This land mark is located off I 25. The GPS on Trip Advisor is not accurate so you'll need to actually Google the location. After exiting I 25 you'll have to drive a short distance, about a mile on a gravel road. Once you make the drive you'll see what is called a volcanic plug. There is also a plaque giving more information about the location. The volcanic plug can be seen while driving on I 25 as well. See more..
