Silverton offers a great location for going to explore the mountains and all of the Off road passes, but it is also a great place to just explore. There are a number of buildings still in use from the early 1900s, and there are shops galore. Blair street used to be the brothel lane and they have kept toe look with the dirt streets and original fronts of many of the buildings. There is a museum which provides more about the town, and of course there is the steam train coming in which is a photographer's delight.See more..

We visited the smaller tasting room on the river. The outdoor setting for tasting was nice with the view of the vineyard. Patrick was very knowledgeable and friendly. He was able to talk about the various grapes and their characteristics in the wine. As an estate winery, we knew that we were enjoying Grand Valley wines from the Colterris Vineyard and not imported juice from California. Colterris was by far the best of the 5 wineries that we visited. Their wines could easily compete with the best of California wines. A surprise was a delicious malbec rose.See more..

We were visiting Estes Park. Someone suggested we drive the Peak to Peak Scenic drive. We wound up in Nederland. So glad we did. It's a funky tiny old town. Basically one street to walk down. Noticed the store on the other side of the main road that goes through the town. The owner is such a neat person. Really enjoyed visiting with him. Beautiful merchandise. Had just intended to look around, not buy anything. Started to leave twice but kept turning around one more time to look at a beautiful reversible alpaca ruana. Could not leave without it. Georgetown Colorado soars at 8530ft elevation. This former silver mining camp along Interstate 70 in the heart of the Rocky Mountains was established in 1859 during the Pike's Peak Gold Rush. Remnants of that period can be seen in its renovated glory all over town. I found even the rest area on I-70 to be a jewel. There's restrooms, of course, but also an old train caboose, a pioneer museum, a log bldg representing a post Office that has been decked out with original furniture and equipment and, of course, the obligatory gift shop. So stop in the Shoppe Internationale, walk downtown, gaze up at the mountains on either side of this Glenwood Canyon, but check out the rest area, too. You'll be pleasantly surprised.See more..

One thing to look out for, is the metal bust of a man's head that has steam passing through it, so that they can shape the cowboy hats to the customers bespoke style.
