Quick hike up to Doc Holliday’s grave. Good trail, but it can be a little steep. Depending on how much you explore the cemetery, it’s under a mile round trip. There is a marker for his grave but historians are not exactly sure where he is buried.See more..
We made a brief stop here on our way from Colorado Springs to Leadville. Both of the kids (6 and 8) were very excited about earning Junior Ranger badges and completing activities in the booklet they were given. I loved that the booklet encouraged them to learn about what they were seeing and to experience it in ways they might not have, like sketching a pine tree or touching an aspen and describing how the bark felt. All of the rangers were very friendly and wonderful with my kids’ questions, even helping my son identify pictures he took of wildflowers while hiking. There are several trails, even accessible trails to make the space enjoyable for everyone. Kids were free, and the $10 each for adults gained us access for seven days. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to return this time and explore more, but we hope to in the future.See more..
From my understanding you can't purchase tickets to this alone. It's included with your Cheyenne Mountain Zoo admission and you can only go up on the day of your paid Zoo ticket. It makes sense seeing as the entrance goes through the zoo. Looking at it from the zoo it looks so high up on the mountain and the drive to get up there is a bit scary BUT the views from the top of the Shrine are definitely worth it! We were there on a clear day and could see for miles. We could even see Pikes Peak! If you're visiting the zoo anyway then you definitely want to make time to do this. I could have stayed up there all day! See more..
4.5Clear Creek Whitewater Park(77 reviews) - Magic at Christmas time! Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Monuments & Statues • Scenic Walking Areas
A walk along Clear Creek near downtown Golden at Christmas time is very special. It is beautifully decorated and all lit up...on both sides of the creek. Plenty of parking. Bring a flashlight for better exploration of displays on the historic buildings along the river down dirt paths. It gets dark, but you can avoid that area and stay on the sidewalk without a flashlight and still see everything.See more..

5.0Isak Heartstone(58 reviews) - A must see! Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
Just a short walk off of Main Street you'll find this amazing sculpture! Once I saw the pictures I knew I couldn't leave without seeing Isak Hearthstone! From the Ice Rink parking lot you just follow the signs down the nicely done wooden path until .... there he is! Very cool sculpture made from recycled materials, it's such a fun little adventure! We went about 3:00 pm, there weren't too many people and most stayed more than six feet away from each other. It's a beautiful area that offers hiking trails and places to just sit and enjoy the scenery. If you are just planning on seeing Isak, the whole experience takes under one hour. If you'd like to hike the trail, I would plan for one to two hours.See more..
4.0Ludlow Massacre Monument Colorado(49 reviews) - An Important, Tragic Event in US Labor History Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
We knew about Ludlow and thought that we should pay our respects. Definitely worth the drive down from Colorado Springs, where we were staying. Even though we knew the history it was interesting to see the terrain and visualize the tent city and the events of April 1914. I wish we could give the UMW $$$ to spruce up the area around the monument, but at the same time there is something moving about the love and care the UMW took to commemorate this event and honor the dead.See more..
4.5Danny Dietz Memorial(38 reviews) - Moving Memorial to a young Navy S.E.A.L. Monuments & Statues
I work with Veterans, and am the son of a peacetime Paratrooper. I read the book, "Lone Survivor" which tells the story of Danny Dietz, Matt Axelson, CDR Mike Murphy and Marcus Luttrell's fight with 140-150 Taliban terrorists. This is a moving memorial to Danny Dietz, the first SEAL to die in this fight. (4 against 140) The memorial is in the bedroom community of Littleton (Denver) and took me 15 minutes from the Denver airport. We always go to Estes Park for our summer vacation but wanted to start it by paying our respects to a remarkable young man.See more..
This statue was erected by the people of Idaho Springs, Colorado in 1950. It is actually based on a cartoon character, in the Sunday Comic Pages, featuring the hero and his wild escapades. It also serves as a reminder of the wild west adventuresome spirit. It's present home is in Courtney-Riley-Cooper Park. It's also listed as an American Roadside Oddity.See more..
4.0Statue to John Denver(8 reviews) - Love it! Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
John Denver was my very first concert experience in 1979 when I was 10 years old. His music holds great memories for me. I got a tear in my eye when I saw this statue dedicated to him in front of the Red Rocks Ampitheatre. And I really enjoyed the little exhibit inside the Trading Post store that's dedicated to some of the musicians who have played at RR, including a video of John Denver. Two bugs flew right into my eyes!! :)See more..

5.0The Clarifier Project(4 reviews) - Hidden gem but park in Bohn Park then walk Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
Hidden gem but be prepared to hunt a bit. First off GPS or google maps takes you to Main Street and it is nowhere near there. Asked locals and many didn’t know. We drove to Bohn Park and asked the attendant and he said to park in lot and walk along the creek under the underpass following gravel trail. After about 5 min walk we found it. Worth a quick stop if you’re in the area and enjoy local art.See more..
5.0Dream Redeemer(3 reviews) - What a cool statue! Spent < 1 hour Monuments & Statues
We were driving to and from Colorado and found this statue listed at roadsideamerica.com. When we take road trips roadsideamerica is a good companion to tripadvisor because it has some quirky places that might not be on tripadvisor. This statue is the story of lost dreams redeemed. It looks a little like an alien or, as described on roadsideamerica, a steampunk monkey. The execution is superb. There's lots interesting detail all around it, including a reference to a passage from Job specific to dreams. It's a bit off the beaten path (actually it's a ways off the interstate) but surely worth a visit. Look for the playground in the park behind (or is it in front of) the school. It's not super large and isn't all that obvious from the street - you have to go into the parking lot to see it. Get out of the car, walk around it. It's way cool.See more..
3.0Bent's New Fort(1 review) - Recently Opened to the Public Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Monuments & Statues
The site used to be on private land, now it is open to the public. Pick up a map and directions at the Welcome Center in Lamar. The parking lot for the fort is directly across from the fort. Not much remains of Bent's fort and the military fort built on top of it but the map from the Welcome center is quite detailed. With a little bit of imagination you can see what the fort was like. Paths are primitive but easily walked. Not the most historical site on the Sante Fe trail but worth the time to see.See more..
