We were so glad we took this road to independence pass. They had had a snowfall a few days before we got there and the small lake was frozen and there was snow everywhere. Beautiful drive although in a rented RV sprinter van there were some tight curves but it was fun. See more..

Our first visit to Breck, and this “hike” was highly recommended. It did not disappoint! We went on a Monday afternoon around 4pm, and there were very few people there. So peaceful. We took 2 laps of the short loop to enjoy it twice. This is a must-do and can be done in 30 minutes. See more..
  3. 5.0 Quandary Peak (105 reviews)
    - Steep and Deep.

Just remember that you've only done half of the work once you get to the top. This is a well-maintained, beautiful hike (east ridge) but it is steep and rocky especially for the last push. Plenty of talus and scree. Views are pretty unbeatable once you hit treeline. Be aware of the new parking regulations and make your life easier by snagging a reserved space below the trailhead. Coming down the mountain, like any other 14er, is as physical as it is mental. Brace yourself for how long it will take and make sure you take plenty of water, snacks, and breaks if you are new to 14ers or have kids along for the ride. Enjoy! See more..

I’m not sure why just family wasn’t included but me and my husband brought my sister and my brother in law here since we were all camping in the San Luis Valley and last I visited was about 7 years ago. I love coming here and enjoy visiting with Judy. I even had bought her book years ago and read it all in one day. There is a garden that you can leave whatever you’d like to thank the two vortex’s that’s are on the property. It’s a pretty neat place to visit and you can even camp there. Can’t wait to come back. Definitely a great visit! See more..

It's the first week of October. We left our hotel at around 6 p.m. to enter the Park and drive to Forest Canyon Overlook to view the sunset. We were not disappointed. It's about halfway to the Alpine Center and a bit of a walk from the parking area to the Overlook. We arrived just in time to see the sun beginning to set. It was incredible. There were not very many people there so it was easy to take great photos. We were unable to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends due to the pandemic, so we took this five day trip by ourselves to one of our favorite places that we have visited many times before. It was freezing cold up at the Outlook and the wind was icy . But we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Enjoy the photos. See more..

We drove to Wolf Creek Ski area and it was like a ghost town. So, we went up to the Lobo Overlook which was really a spectacular view. It was very windy so we didn't have our picnic there, but on a not so windy day it would be great! Enjoy the drive and the view! See more..
  8. 5.0 Warner Point (41 reviews)
    - Go early or late, take a trail guide

This 1.5 mile trail is at the very end of the South Rim Drive. There are free trail guides at the trailhead, which I'd recommend as they give you info about numbered stops along the trail. There is a lot of ups and downs and stairs on this trail. Doing it mid-day in the summer is pretty brutal. I would go morning or evening. See more..

We were in Trinidad for a few days. We tried to drive up here many times, but each time the gate was locked. With no real information about how long the walk would be, we didn't. On our last day, we drove by one more time. Still the gate was locked. We had heard a story that the key holder was having reservations about unlocking the gate and hadn't opened it in a few weeks. It was decided we'd park and walk. While the gate is locked, there is a walking path through the gate and a sign indicating bike and walk path. The walk is about 1.25 miles and takes about 20 minute. There are a few places you walk a decent grade, but mostly its an easy walk. See more..

Just right off of the highway is a large parking area with stunning views to endless forest and valley. Great rock formations as well. You can see beautiful lakes and green fields. Several mountain ranges. They put up very tall metal fence/railing, which makes photo taking a big difficult. You could tell it used to have a low rock wall. Probably for safety reasons, otherwise it would make a great photo op spot for sure. Definitely take a few minutes to take in the views. Worth a stop over. See more..

  14. 1.0 Ken Caryl, CO (1 review)
    - Third try at the Manor House in recent years. It is a BUST!!!
    Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Lookouts
The Manor House in Ken Caryl Valley is a stately mansion built by the Shaeffers of Rocky Mountain News origins. It sits perched on a hill and has lovely views of the Valley. It is now open on Wednesdays at least sometimes for Happy Hour events. They just can't get it together. If they have a band make sure you sit outside even if it is raining. The music and the accoustics are so loud you cannot hear what the person sitting next to you is saying. And, bring your own appetizers because they will run out in the first hour. We finally left and went to our friends' house (also in the valley) and enjoyed our evening visiting without all the noise. See more..
  15. 5.0 Exclamation Point (1 review)
    - Best Viewpoint for the Black Canyon of the Gunnison - Must See
    Spent 1-2 hours Lookouts
    Exclamation Point image
While most people only visit the South Rim of the Black Canyon, Exclamation Point on the North Rim provides the best views of the canyon and the river. You can only reach the point after a 1.5 mile hike into the wilderness area to reach this destination. However, once you are here you will have incredible views into the canyon both looking SE and SW. The bend that occurs here allows you to get close and have these great angles. However, what is equally impressive is the view straight down 1,500 feet of sheer cliff that you will stand at the edge of. I have been to a number of mountains and canyons, but no where can you get this experience. Again this is the best place to see the Black Canyon for those adventurous to come to the North Rim.
