  4. 4.5 Museum of the Mountain West (389 reviews)
    - Old World Charm!
    History Museums
Museum of the Mountain West image
To say that this is a museum would be an understatement - This is actually a magical place that would transport you back in time. Each building has a story and our guide Steve did a wonderful job of not only telling us the history behind them but also how they were acquired and some of them have actually featured in the movies. The place is full of interesting artifacts, most of them donated by the founder Richard Fike, and we had the pleasure of meeting him as well during our visit and learning about the effort he has put in to build the museum . The sophistication behind some of the musical instruments and household items from more than 100 years ago at display is simply amazing and am sure kids who have been born with iPhone in their hands can learn a lot about the things that they would never see otherwise. It does take time to admire the collection at display and the time is well spent. See more..

    Astor House Museum image
The Astor House is closed to the public for historic rehabilitation. Built in 1867 when Golden was the territorial capital, the Astor House stayed in continuous operation as a boarding and rooming house until 1971, serving legislators, miners, and students. With one of the first bathtubs in town, the Astor House also attracted trail-dusted visitors willing to pay 25 cents for a hot bath. Although the tub is no longer used for soaking, a visit to the Astor House Museum will show you why it’s on the National Register of Historic Places! See more..

My son had a senior project due and we needed to do some research. The staff is very helpful and their is a research room downstairs that we found amazing historical letters and information from several of the founding members of Greeley. To be honest, I wasn't excited at first but then by the end, was pleasantly surprised with everything that we found. See more..

    - An unexpected Treasure of a museum.

Surprisingly good and authentic display of historical Americana. Viewing these displays is a walk through American history from the late 19th through the middle 20 th century. It includes such large pieces as 3 wooden silos built 100 years ago used to store grain . An apple shed with sorting equipment used in the production of apples for market. A blacksmith shop including all related equipment, tools and machinery plus a western town lovingly recreated with original furniture , equipment and displays. My wife particularly liked the rather complete doll house display towards the rear of the museum area. All this and more well worth the price of admission . Highly recommended stop when visiting the Grand Mesa. See more..
