For those who are into engineering, both the thin arch dam design and "hidden" powerhouse are landmark features that were creative back in the late-1960's when it was built. Beyond that the dam is set in a beautiful narrow canyon on the Gunnison River, with hiking, fishing and picnicking options just below the dam. It is most spectacular if you are there when they are spilling water from the dam as the spillway's free-fall drop of over 350 ft makes quite a "waterfall". See more..
