4.5Red Rock Canyon(1.183 reviews) - Red Rock Canyon-amazing. Monday: 5:00 AM - 11:00 PM Parks • Geologic Formations
In its own way, just as spectacular as Garden of the Gods. Not as big and grand, but you are allowed to get up close to the rock formations as you walk among them. Several spots that give you the view of the entire area rock formations-from Red Rock Canyon through to the Garden of the Gods and the surrounding smaller rocks. Really puts the whole area into a great perspective. This is a view only from the Canyon. Well worth the time to hike the much quieter trail system. Went on a Monday just before noon and saw less than 50 people.See more..

4.5Roxborough State Park(439 reviews) - If you have extra time in Denver.... do not miss Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM State Parks • Hiking Trails • Geologic Formations
What a surprise; we were introduced to this State Park by another website and had the time to visit while we were in the Littleton (Denver) area. What A Treat !! If you have been to the Garden Of The Gods in Colorado Springs, this is equal to OR even better. We walked the 1.5-hour circle Fountain Valley loop trail; it was easy with a few inclines and rest stops. Most of it was in the sun ( not much shade), so take water and sunscreen. The price has gone up to $10, and cash is required as the CC machine is nonoperable. Enjoy.See more..
4.5Alluvial Fan(330 reviews) - Accessible to all, pretty falls and short trail Geologic Formations
The day we went (Tues. Aug. 16th) it was raining and not many people there at 10 a.m. The rain had the falls roaring and muddy but still beautiful. This is a very easy, accessible path. We parked at the first parking lot and it was less crowded. A little more of a walk but you can walk over to the other parking lot as well.See more..

Bachelor Loop was beautiful. I have a Mazda 3 and decided that because the road is very rough and steep in places to go in reverse direction of the guided tour. Be sure to have good tires and know to use your gears! Four wheel drive vehicles are recommended.See more..
4.5Rock Park(139 reviews) - Great Views Monday: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM Parks • Geologic Formations
I call the Rock Castle Rock. Light hike to the top, great views of Castle Rock and the surrounding area. Im sure the Sunsets are pretty cool from up there. Some people had climbed to the top of the rock, which its posted that its not reccommended to due to loose rocks. I was distracted on my way back down, and took an opposite trail on the way down, so I totally did a circle of the rock. See more..
4.5Painted Wall(117 reviews) - One of the Must Stop Overlooks Geologic Formations
The short hike for this overlook is well worth your effort. This is a gorgeous view of the canyon and the Painted Wall is a natural wonder. This sheer wall is not only beautiful, but it is taller than most of the world's tallest buildings. This overlook takes you right to the very best of viewing spots.See more..
This hidden gem is away from the crowds but right off the road. We initially were confused on location because GPS took us to the middle of Crede and the reviews were not specific. Without great reception in the area I had to ask for directions. The Falls are actually another 20 miles north of Crede; between Crede and Lake City. It is well worth the drive. We agree w/ others on TA. A real hidden gem.See more..
This dwelling is small and it is not considered one of the five main dwellings that you can visit in Mesa Verde; however, it has the tallest structure of any dwelling in Mesa Verde and that is why the dwelling is called the Tower House. To visit the Tower House, you need to purchase an expensive ticket online; the ticket is quite difficult to get and is only for one person. Nevertheless, if you don't get the ticket, you can see the Tower House from above, from one of the view points located in the Mesa Top road. The view is actually impressive and unique.See more..

4.5Kruger Rock(39 reviews) - Good challenging hike Geologic Formations
First off, we are Texans and not used to the Colorado altitude. We couldn't get into RMNP but heard Kruger Rock was a nice hike. We were not disappointed. It was about 2.5 hours up and 1 hour down and totally worth the effort. It costs $10 to get in and definitely bring some water, sunscreen, and bug spray. There were some pretty large flies buzzing around and some bugs at the top, but nothing to overly be concerned about. The hike was a challenge for my wife with asthma, but we paced ourselves and it was a fantastic family experience. Would definitely do it again.See more..
4.5Settler's Park(36 reviews) - Amazing! Fairly difficult trail for young kids Spent 2-3 hours Parks • Geologic Formations
Went hiking here with our seven year old. He was capable of completing this hike. It did get a little anxiety ridden when we got closer to the top. I recommend if the child has impulse control and good listening skills. This is not a run up run down trail for kids but the views are magnificent. Hidden gem!See more..
4.5Gunnison Point(35 reviews) - Another Amazing Overlook on South Rim Drive Mountains • Geologic Formations

Beautiful red rock formations, wild flowers & views of the mountains. Was there with little kids so stayed on the road but still got to see some really nice views & rocks and got gorgeous family pictures. The road could use some help; we saw some sedans driving but an SUV is definitely recommended The drive to the park along CO Rd. 9 is very nice as well. Many GPS systems direct you to the wrong end of the park, I don't think you can make it through from that way. Make sure you come to County RD F24 from County Rd. 9, not from County Rd 69.See more..

4.5Castle Rock(14 reviews) - Great hike - spectacular view from the top Spent More than 3 hours Geologic Formations
Hiking up Elbert Creek trail to Castle Rock is a fairly short but fairly steep hike - you need to be in reasonable physical condition to do it comfortably since you are climbing the entire 2.5 miles up with over 1600 feet in elevation gain and some of the last half-mile or so is pretty steep. The view from the top is amazing - the Animas River valley stretching from North to South below you with the cars on US 550 looking like toys, the blue of Electra Lake to the South East and the peaks of the Weminuche Wilderness rising up in the distance. It makes all the climbing worth every bit of the effort expended. The hike back down is much easier aerobically but probably not much easier on your quads. See more..
5.0Needle Rock(12 reviews) - Get info before going so you know more about the area Spent < 1 hour Geologic Formations
Nathan at the Stone House where we were staying suggested we drive out to see this attraction. The sun was setting & we barely made it but got some good alpenglow pictures of the Rock. Wished we'd done our homework & been able to spend more time exploring the area --- it looked interestingSee more..
Grand Mesa is the largest, flat-topped mountain in the world, spanning 500 square miles and rising between 5,000 feet and 11,237 feet of elevation. The top of the Grand Mesa is a layer of basalt poured by lava approximately 10 million years ago which has protected the mesa from the erosion suffered by surrounding sedimentary rocks.See more..

5.0Handies Peak(3 reviews) - SPECTACULAR AND 'EASIER' 14'R Geologic Formations
What a beautiful trail to a beautiful 14'r peak. We drove to the upper trailhead at American Basin. The trail is then 5.6 miles with about 2500' of vertical. You need a 4wd to get to this trailhead. Otherwise you can start from the Grizzly Gulch trailhead which adds about 2.5 miles and 1100' of vertical. From Lake City it is about an hour and 40 minutes to the American Basin trailhead with the last 20 miles on dirt road. The American Basin trailhead is spectacular. The climb is steady and gradual for the majority of the hike. It gets tough the last couple hundred yards. Halfway is Sloan Lakewhich is beautiful. We hiked on a Monday and had the peak to ourselves. Took us about 2 hrs 20 min to reach the top and about 1 hr 50 min to descend. The trail itself is one the best of all the 14'rs we have done. Tons of marmots and pikas. Since it is tough to get to the trailhead, not a popular hike. Highly recommended.See more..
