This was an unexpected stop for us but offered a beautiful overlook. Driving Trail Ridge Road can bring a lot of anxiety so this was a great way to take a break and relax. I highly recommend making this stop. See more..

We camped in Island Lake Campground here but several sweet spots to stay if you can. We had large deer come right up to our picnic table and eat vegetation fearlessly. The lakes are simply gorgeous but too cold for swimming. If you have a kayak don’t miss out!! See more..

Lower Cataract Lake is an easy 30 minute drive north of Silverthorne on Highway 9. Take the Heeney Road turnoff just south of the Green Mountain Reservoir. There is a restroom and a small picnic area. The lake is beautiful anytime of the year but particularly so in the fall when the trees are full of color. Take a comfortable hike around the lake...about two miles. See more..
  10. 5.0 Highway Springs Campground (1 review)
    - Highway Springs Campground - a really very nice camping experience !!!
Spent More than 3 hours Forests
    Highway Springs Campground image
This is a conveniently located campground with two loops located right along US Highway 160 4.1 miles west of South Fork, Colorado. There are 5 sites on the upper loop, and 7 sites on the lower campground loop. Plenty of mature pine trees throughout the campground, and beautiful views of the surrounding scenery and Rio Grande River. The south fork the Rio Grande River provides fishing opportunities just south of the campground down in the valley. The newly remodeled (2010) facilities include 13 campsites with tables and fireplaces, 2 vault type toilets, and adequate turn around and parking space for RV's. No drinking water or firewood is provided. Very enjoyable overnight camping...the South Fork of the Rio Grande River is just adjacent to the campground...makes for a soothing sound of rippling water, and also makes for some great toe-dipping opportunities and fishing as well. Wasn't crowded at all...of the 13 total slots, only 4 others were occupied. Clean fresh air...enjoy !!!. See more..
