    Bodies of Water
    Lake O' Hara image
Originally I was planning to ride to Emerald Lake but when I passed by the sign of Lake O’Hara on highway 1, I decided to turn in and check out the park. When I saw the sign of walking 11km in and another 11km walking out I was debating if I wanted to do it. I was glad I did the walk. It was easy just a long walk. The view was worth it. It was cloudy and breezy so it was a perfect condition for hiking. Just layer up. I didn’t do the circuit since I still had to bike back. See more..
  12. 5.0 Garibaldi Provincial Park (180 reviews)
    - Must do in BC!!
State Parks • Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
    Garibaldi Provincial Park image
Garibaldi Provincial Park is a favorite destination of outdoor enthusiasts: it offers a range of hiking opportunities from lush alpine meadows, wildlife viewing opportunities, alpine flowers blooming in lush meadows, and hikes ranging from a few hours to a few days using map and compass. Garibaldi Park has an interesting geological background as it was created by volcanic action which created the formation of many of the parks peaks; the Black Tusk, Price Mountain, The Table, Mount Garibaldi, the CinderCone and the Glacier Pikes just to name a few. Lava from Clinker Peak is responsible for the creation of The Barrier. Behind this natural dam 300 metre deep Garibaldi Lake was formed. See more..
  13. 4.0 Hicks Lake (140 reviews)
    - Great Painting Location
    Bodies of Water
    Hicks Lake image
I am a full-time artist. I went up to HIcks Lake to see if it would be a nice painting location and it exceeded my expectations. A nice, natural feeling and looking location. Compared with Harrison Lake, Hicks Lake is quiet and offers many views that would make excellent references for paintings. This year, if possible, I will be going back there with a kayak to really explore its possibilities. Good parking, plenty of quiet places to set up a painting kit, an overall nice lake to visit See more..

  15. 4.0 White Pine Beach (129 reviews)
    - Sasamat in 2021
    Bodies of Water
    White Pine Beach image
Sasamat provides a lovely white sand beach on a lake that can be quite clean. The cleanliness depends on the number of people in the water - crowds equal murk and kids doing what kids do. Likewise, for part of the Spring, there can be too many geese with poop everywhere including the water. It’s very popular with open water swimming, having little or no current and being in a largely protected valley the water is rarely more than rippled. Power boats are not allowed, but it is popular with kayakers, stand up paddle boarders and floated of all kinds. One recent development is pay parking. However if you get there early and go in for a swim around the lake you can easily get out before 10:00 and not have to pay. Hope this helps? See more..
  16. 4.5 Cultus Lake (118 reviews)
    - Main Beach great for families
    Bodies of Water
    Cultus Lake image
I’ve loved coming here for 30 years! The series of docks are great for all levels of swimmers and refreshing to jump in to the water. Water is warmer than other spots, more boat traffic now that the 90s because of all the developed houses right across from Main Beach. Playground was great for our 3.5 year old son (would say great for 3-8 year olds). Sandy beach was raked smooth and as the first visitors of the day (10am on a Tuesday in August) we got our pick of spots. Lots of shade available on the beach, washrooms close, picnic tables and benches. Concession available. Only downfall is high cost of parking but worth it for all the services. See more..

    Bodies of Water
    Christina Lake image

  19. 4.5 Lafarge Lake (88 reviews)
    - Transit for Christmas Night Market
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
    Lafarge Lake image
This took a couple of attempts with our little ones this holiday season. The first evening we accidentally tried to go when it coincided with the Christmas night market. We circled the parking lots for 15min then went home. We heard later other interactions over parking were very heated. I reattempted to see the lights with my kiddos on a Sunday just after Christmas. It was still very busy and vendor trucks available for mini donuts and hot chocolate, but parking was much more reasonable. See more..

Family fun and picnic, 13 of us went and stayed for 8 hours. The kids had lots of fun in the lake, it really is a beautiful spot, we go there a lot. Best tip Arrive early. The place gets packed quickly and they often shut down the main parking because it fills up quickly and secondary parking is quite a hike. See more..

    Cheakamus River image
Park in the ample parking just down the road. Walk up the sidewalk divided by the yellow line to the logging road. There are four posts fifty feet up. Choose the Cheakamus river walk, a winding 1 and 1/2+ hour trai (each way) to the gorgeous suspension bridge. The river’s fury and glacial colour and forest’s perfection are your reasons for going. Return by the other side of the river or go on to the lake (get details in advance). See more..

  24. 5.0 Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park (55 reviews)
    - The Best of the Best
Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
Desolation Sound Marine Provincial Park image
I have sailed all over the world, and British Columbia is the best cruising area by far. The weather, in summer, is generally pleasant. The main cruising area, from Victoria to the Broughton Archipelago, is protected, with hundreds of islands and thousands of anchorages, many of which you might have to yourselves, even at the height of cruising season. The most accessible are the Gulf Islands, but the best area is Desolation Sound. You can get there in one very long day from Vancouver, or two easy days. Two long days from Victoria. The water is warm, especially in Pendrill Sound, the warmest water north of, well, it's warmer than most of California. Great scenery, open enough for sailing but protected enough to be safe. What's not to like? See more..
  25. 4.0 Jones Lake (55 reviews)
    - Midweek Peace, Tranquility, and some Bears.
    Bodies of Water
    Jones Lake image
Came up for a couple of days with the missus and our dog. The views of the mountains up the lake are insane and the water is fresh and cold for swimming and floating. We found a shady campsite right on the lake that we could drive right into and setup. Once the sun went down on the first night our dog started growling and barking up at the road, I went to see what was there and there was a medium sized black bear very close at the site entrance. I scared it off quickly and it ran back into the bush. It returned the second night as I forgot to put a small garbage bag we had hanging from a tree away and me and the dog barked it away again. Be careful with your food and other attractants here! See more..
  26. 5.0 Buntzen Lake (44 reviews)
    - Beautiful Hike!
Saturday: 8:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
    Buntzen Lake image
We went in the fall/October. I understand the weekends in the summer are pretty busy. Parking easy and lots of it! WE hiked through the trails for about 1.5 hours. fairly flat but there were a few sections that were up and down. Runners were ok. Quiet during the week. Pooch had a ball in the outdoors! The lake itself is quiet during the week. See more..
  27. 4.5 Wedgemount Lake (38 reviews)
    - Such a beautiful place. Turquoise Lake, massive glacier, waterfalls. This place has it all!
    Bodies of Water
    Wedgemount Lake image
It's a steep hike but it's not terribly long. Only 7k from the parking lot to the amazing lake. The lakeside hut is great as a base or one of the dozens of incredible-view tent pads. The glacier is close by and easily accessible and relatively safe to hike on as long as you stay away from the edges and crevasses. See more..

On July 19th 2019, our family, my two sons, my mother in law and many beloved friends and family held for my forever loved and beautiful wife, her celebration of life after an extremely unexpected and horrible turn of events that led to her passing on Saturday July 6th 2019. We rented this location and everyone involved made it as easy and smooth as possible considering what we were all going trough. 31. 4.5 Lindeman Lake (27 reviews)
    - Great hike but find the right time to go!
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Lindeman Lake image
When we went, it was pretty nice. A bit chilly but as you're going up the trails you get pretty warmed up and you feel great. Quite often you run into individuals with their stupid dogs who are obviously not trained to be there with the owners. I blame the owners. Other than that it's a pretty good hike, nice lake at the end where you can relax. A large stone/rock wall oversees the lake and from the bottom it seems like little gargoyles are up on the cliffs. Pretty neat hike, doesn't take too long to get up there. It's worth it! See more..
  32. 4.0 Albert Dyck Park (24 reviews)
    - Abbotsford's Best Beach!
Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Parks
    Albert Dyck Park image
Okay, there are no other beaches in Abbotsford, so compared to swimming in Mill Lake, this is awesome. It was once a quarry, so not naturally beautiful since it's man-made. The sand isn't the finest, but does vary in grain size depending where you lie. The lake is warm enough in summer and nice for swimming. One end is sectioned off for swimming, while the rest is for waterskiing and wakeboarding. Opposite the swimming end is a dog area. Two decent volleyball courts and a trail around the lake. When I started coming here 20 years ago it was a secret and always quiet. Now it's hard to find a parking spot on any sunny day in summer. It was closed for swimming for a bit due to high bacterial count. See more..

    Bodies of Water
    Quesnel Lake image
Be sure to add this area to your trip , some fantastic scenery and wonderful wildlife. Visit the Ghost Town at Quesnell Forks, see how the original settlers lived. If in this region at the end September, check out the Salmon runs here. There is an annual event here please check for dates prior to visit. This is a remote location an well worth some quality time here for the wildlife at Horsefly forks. Also be sure to take a ride throw re Beaver Valley road, the wildlife here is spectacular, including Bears, Eagles, Hawks, Dear, Moose. Be sure to drive slowly and have Cameras ready. This is a road a car can navigate, you don't need a 4 WD, unless in Winter. Plan to spend time here to see the best of the scenery and of course wildlife. See more..

  37. 4.5 Falls Lake (13 reviews)
    - Scenic Drive With a Short Hike To a Beautiful Lake
    Bodies of Water
    Falls Lake image
My wife and I discovered this from a hiking brochure when visiting Hope, BC, Canada. To reach the trail head, take Route 5 north east from Hope, BC to exit 221. The drive is very scenic. After taking the exit, pass under Route 5 and drive the only paved, spur road at the interchange. The spur road's pavement ends at the large parking lot for the trail head (about 500 m). Hike the gravel road over the stream and turn left onto the trail. The trail is about 1 km, paralleling the stream which flows from the lake. The lake is very nice. There are two wooden platforms for tents, making this a nice, easy backpack trip. We had the trail to ourselves on our Wednesday afternoon hike. See more..

Bar-none the best steelhead fishing I have ever experienced. I even caught a couple on my ultra-light "dolly" set up. I would highly recommend this river to anyone looking for a once in a lifetime experience. Even if you don't land any fish the scenery and tranquility are more than worth the trip. See more..
  39. 4.0 Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society (13 reviews)

Salmon Arm Bay Nature Enhancement Society image
The only accessible natural waterfront in Salmon Arm that the city hasn’t destroyed (managed by SABNES for the Nature Trust), this 4KM stretch of level trail through the woods and grassy marshes is a delightful haven with lots of birds and lucky spottings of deer, moose and beavers. Easy to walk or cycle with dogs on a leash (except during nesting). Side boardwalks for bird and beaver sighting offer even more variety. Dandy place for every nature lover, much enjoyed by users of all ages. See more..
  40. 5.0 Nahatlatch River (12 reviews)
    - Stunning views and great for rafting
    Bodies of Water
    Nahatlatch River image
If you're going to visit the river you must check out REO Rafting! The river boasts grade 4 rapids but also takes it down a notch at some points! It also has Francis Lake further upstream, which has a very tame current making it nice to have a quick dip in! The sounds of the river are very relaxing and are actually conducive to a good nights sleep. The river is very much off the tourist trail, and has limited evidence of human influence. It truly is a wonder of nature that is relatively untouched. See more..

Just off the highway, this is a lovely, easy walk around the lake. The boardwalk is well maintained and the trail is wheelchair accessible. We visited in October so we only saw 2 other people during our walk. If you're looking for a change from the Whistler circuits, this makes a great alternative. See more..
  42. 4.5 Nicola Lake (9 reviews)
    - Great recreation lake
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water
    Nicola Lake image
Nicola Lake has over 20 species of fish including Kokanee and Rainbow Trout. Fishing picks up in the spring when the Kokanee become active. Nicola is a generally a windy lake making it good place for sailing (boats, boards, parasailing, etc.) There is a public boat launch on the South East side of the lake with a dock you can fish from. Monk Park Provincial campground is located on the North West side of the lake and is a great place for families to spend the day or camp. This lake has a long history with local first nations peoples. (There are two pit house depressions located at Monk Park) The fishing and recreational opportunities at Nicola Lake make this my favorite lake in the region. See more..

I have been driving my grandkids to various places in GVRD to experience being with birds, ducks, geese and others and only realized this month that we don't need to go far to do it. 44. 5.0 Crater Lake (9 reviews)
    - Worth the walk
    Bodies of Water
    Crater Lake image
It's a 20km+ drive up a steep hill from Smithers and there is a large area for parking near the end of the road (parking is discouraged right at the end). The walk starts under the ski lift and the initial 15 minutes is quite steep. Keep at it though as you are soon rewarded with a easier walk through wild flower meadow. The landscape gets a bit rougher but the path is good and you come upon crater lake between 1-2 hours. A short descent takes you to the lake shore. We continued our climb up the left hand side of the lake and followed the crater rim round. It was a bit loose over shattered rock scree but once up the going was better. Well worth the extra hour or so for the fabulous views. Return from the lake by way of ascent See more..

I saw a majestic frozen waterfall. pretty rigorous for a first timer in snowshoeing. the minuses are the few sharp cliffs you will have to get up and down to get to the hot springs, the water was way too hot and i couldn't get more than my toes in despite cooling it down with snow. zero phone signals so bring along your walkie talkies if u need to communicate with team mates. Great place only accessible by watercraft you must cross pit Lake to get to Widgon slough /Creek. You cannot access S Park from the Quarry Road on the west side of pet River 9 km down you will encounter a locked gate! As you travel down a dusty road with a bunch of dump trucks carrying rocks. So don’t go to that side stick to the east side head up to the pit Lake boat launch. There are no bathrooms. There is no swimming. There is a location to put in your kayak or a paddle board as well as location to drop your trailers vessel. I only managed to paddle to the first to the first each up a slew as we were in a time crunch. Next time I will allow more time. I swam at the little beach and also took a few dips off of our SUPs. Beautiful seaweed grass I can’t wait to go see the waterfalls See more..
