Getting to SG is challenging but fun. For us it was an hour flight in a Beaver aircraft followed by 29 minutes in a zodiac. SG is a Haida village that was vacated after small pox decimated the population in the 1860's. Today Haida Watchmen guard the site and act as tour guides. No more than a dozen visitors at a time are permitted, so groups cycle through all day - actually very appropriate as the intimacy of a small group is appropriate for the site. Our watchman was Donna, a well versed young lady who balanced knowledge and respect with excellent tour and presentation skills. The site itself is a grouping of mortuary poles ranged along a beach, together with ruins of former long houses. For those who have been to Macchu Picchu, this is a similarly moving and mystical experience. A must see. See more..
