    - Beautiful park worth visiting!

    Yoho National Park image
We had past through this park on many occasions on route to Alberta. We had always wondered when we should visit it. Since it's the Covid pandemic and not recommended to travel outside of Canada, we decided to visit. We checked the park's website and wow, so many places to see, so many waterfalls, all shown with beautiful pictures. The first waterfall as you enter the park is the Wapta Falls. We spent two full days here and visited Wapta Falls, Natural Bridge, Emerald Lake, Hamilton Falls, Takakkaw Falls, Spiral Tunnel, Upper Spiral Tunnel Viewpoint, and The Village of Field. If you have more days, you can hike up to Laughing Falls, Twin Falls, and many more. Make sure the place you want to visit is open as it's still during the CoVid pandemic so check the website. To save time, you can buy your park pass online at banfflakelouise.com which is C$20 per day for a vehicle of 7 passengers. See more..
  4. 4.5 Mount Revelstoke National Park (478 reviews)
    - Stunning!
    National Parks
    Mount Revelstoke National Park image
Buy a pass and drive up there before the wildflowers are gone! We visited two weeks ago (mid-August) when the "Meadows in the Sky" lived up to its name. Gorgeous! The drive itself is amazing, with lots of viewpoints, but you really need to get outside to truly enjoy the mountain. Because of COVID, however, the shuttle bus that takes people from the parking lot to the summit was not running. You can walk up the road, or take the trail — either option is uphill!! The trail took an hour and was a steady, though not particularly steep, climb. Take water. And mosquito repellent. And a jacket or fleece. It's generally colder at the summit, but the hiking should warm you up. Once you reach the summit there are trails all over the place, each one marked and easy to follow, though narrow. Another climb takes you even higher, to the Summit Fire Lookout and a spectacular 360 degree panoramic view. See more..
  5. 4.5 Nairn Falls Provincial Park (330 reviews)
    - Nairn Falls , interesting waterfalls after 1.5 easy hike
Sunday: 7:00 AM - 11:00 PM National Parks • Waterfalls
    Nairn Falls Provincial Park image
Interesting 1.5 Km hike going up to reach the amazing view point of the Nairn Falls. The hike is medium, you need to be careful with raining weather.it’s crowded most of the time , take care when you walk in the trail and give enough space for others moving in the opposite direction. On the top there are two view point one up and one down , don’t miss any of them . See more..
  6. 4.5 Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park (302 reviews)
    - An amazing site when there is maximum tide change.
    National Parks
    Skookumchuck Narrows Provincial Park image
Ensure that you check the tides so that you can arrive near the time of maximum tide change. The local tourist magazines show the best times to visit. For outflow tides, choose the North path when you get near the rapids. There is free parking at the museum across the road from the trail entrance, and it takes about an hour on a fairly easy, well-marked trail to walk each way to/from the rapids. It is an amazing site to see all that water rushing past. See more..
  7. 4.5 Kootenay National Park (237 reviews)
    - Sometimes the longer route is the more enjoyable route
Spent < 1 hour Mountains • National Parks
    Kootenay National Park image
Due to the forest fires we ended up having to take a different route home from Calgary for the first time. We fell in love with the drive through Kootenay National Park and actually would prefer to take this longer route moving forward. We were surprised there was not a lot of traffic on this route. We did have to drive a little slower but it was worth it. There were lots of rest stops. All but one were well maintained. There are so many places to pull over and take pictures, we saw so much wildlife on the side of the road and some stunning lakes. We saw so much wildlife we could have played wildlife BINGO. Card will be made for next time we do this drive! Not sure if the Sinclair Canyon on your way in/out of Radium Hot Springs is part of the Kootenay National Park but it is very close and is worth a stop to walk out. Check out the view point on the one side, see the rushing river/waterfall and see the narrow canyon We saw some eagles there as well! What an awesome day! See more..
  8. 5.0 Gwaii Haanas National Park (105 reviews)
    - Trip of a lifetime!
National Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Gwaii Haanas National Park image
The location is for the administration office, not the park itself, which starts on Moresby/Lyell Islands well to the South. The office is next to the Haida Cultural Center which is a STELLAR museum, and there is a Carving Shed right behind it with poles and canoes. The park itself is fantastic, and most of it is pristine wilderness, and represents a major environmental and cultural victory, gained over 20 years ago. It's a world-class cultural and nature experience that you'll need an outfitter to help you access via boat, helicopter or floatplane. See more..
  9. 5.0 Muncho Lake Provincial Park (82 reviews)
    - MacDonald campsite Muncho Lake
    National Parks
    Muncho Lake Provincial Park image
Muncho Lake is actually about 240km west of Fort Nelson. I was there in May and coming upon this lake was one of the highlights of our trip on the Alaska Hwy. As I rounded the corner and came down the hill approaching the lake, I was stunned by the sheer beauty of the lake. The lake itself is just another gorgeous mountain lake but the colours of the lake are beyond decscription. There were colours there that I have not yet seen in nature anywhere or on any colour palette in any paint store. Those colours may have, in part, been so vibrant because of the thin layer of ice crystals covering the lake but nonetheless, stunning! We stayed at the MacDonald campsite near the north end of the lake. Well run, clean and no bad sites. See more..

  11. 4.0 Paul Lake Provincial Park (31 reviews)
    - Great campsite but NOT by the lake
    National Parks
    Paul Lake Provincial Park image
Don't get me wrong, our family (kids 10 and 18) loved this lake and ask to go back, but it is not a lakeside campground as the name implies. The campground itself is nestled up in the forrest and we found the sites quite private. The lake is about a 5 min drive or a 15 min walk, (not one I'd want to make at the end of the day). My daughter and I often walked down to the lake, while our son rode his bike and husband drove. When ready to go back to the campground we just jumped in the truck as its a looong steep walk back up. The lake is gorgeous. We sunbathed, swam (a little seaweedy), canoed and most importantly fished while at the lake. We caught tons of fish off the dock. There is also a hiking trail leaving from both the lake and the campground. The view at the end of the trail is not to be missed. Mostly a very easy walk, but gets steep at the end. Don't veer off the trail and you should make it up fine. See more..
  12. 4.5 Centennial Park (23 reviews)
    - Beautiful Walk to the Falls
    National Parks
    Centennial Park image
We visited the park so we could do the walk to Bridge Creek Falls. The trail is an easy walk with lots of places to sit if you wish. Falls are beautiful. Nice park that seems very well maintained. See more..
  13. 4.5 Tweedsmuir Provincial Park (17 reviews)
    - Spektakuläre Lage am Atnarko River,Grizzly's "hautnah"
    National Parks
    Tweedsmuir Provincial Park image
Hi,we were in Bella Coola Valley in the first week of september 2019.We have seen a lot of Grizzly's within this time.In Hagensburg we met a grizzly female with 2 cups in a garden. Finally she wanted to cross the road to visit a garden more.We did not leave the car but were successfull to take a lot of spectacular photos of the bear-family. Tip: If you want to take photos of grizzly's nearby without running in danger, visit the "Benarko" platform nearby the Hw20 on the left side of the road, short distance after you have done the "Hill"in direction to Hagensburg-Bella Coola..It is a platform with electric fence, you can take a lot of spectacular photos. You can stay there as lng as you like without paying a lot of money. We stayed at this place two times and took again a lot of spectacular photos from several grizzly's only ten to twenty meters of distance. It would be nice to give some dollars to the stuff, who takes care of you over the time.Good luck. 14. 4.0 Meziadin Lake Provincial Park (16 reviews)
    - Awesome
    National Parks
    Meziadin Lake Provincial Park image
If you looking to get away Meziadin lake is a great place to go, but be prepared there is not much around. There is a small store in the office that has some of the basics but not much. Some sites can be reserved and some of these have power (20 amps). Stewart is approximately 45 minute away but this drive is a must. There is a wide variety of sites to pick from, with some of the nicer being first come first serve, these fcfs are on the lake and have power. If you really want to experience the lake you need to get on it, we had kayaks and were on the lake alot, however the wind can come up later in the afternoon. Bugs can be a problem so be prepared, we were actually fortunate but were ready as this was one of the may stops on our way to Dawson City and the Dempster. If your traveling the Cassiar, be sure to put Meziadin on you list. One last note is that these was a new gas station being built at the junction going to Stewart. See more..
  15. 4.5 Monkman Provincial Park (14 reviews)
    - Monkman Memorial Trail
    National Parks
    Monkman Provincial Park image
This is a great hike if you are prepared to pack in supplies and have time to spend at the cascades. We took three days to hike in, look around the falls and hike back out. I would definitely recommend at least four days for this hike. We didn't go the last 5 kms to Monkman lake. The trail wasn't too extreme but the weight of the pack got to us inexperienced backpackers. See more..
  16. 4.5 Murtle Lake Provincial Park (8 reviews)
    - Not easy Access - Currently Closed via Protest along Road!!!
    National Parks
    Murtle Lake Provincial Park image
As of June/July 2020 there is an ongoing protest in the area so unable to access Myrtle Lake. That said I have been here a couple of times. The road in is not for the faint of heart - as it is very narrow single lane with many drop offs. Recommend smaller more compact vehicles with boats on roof rack(s). Did see a Truck & RV along the road and they were white knuckled. See more..
  17. 4.0 Teapot Mountain (6 reviews)
    - The infamous Teapot is getting a makeover!
Mountains • National Parks • Forests
    Teapot Mountain image
Teapot has always been an amazing place, and one of my personal favorites while living in our proud community of Prince George. ROCK ED Backcountry is very excited to be a part of the rehabilitation project on the mountain and users can look forward to improved maintenance of the trails, new benches, and upgraded parking area, new signs and much much more. Teapot Mountain is also a recreation site, managed by Rec Sites and Trails BC. In order to keep Teapot Mtn sustainable for years to come, the teapots were needed to be removed for many reasons. With the much needed work required for this site, teapots are best left at home so they stay out of the work zone. The volunteers will definitely appreciate your cooperation! See more..
  18. 5.0 Nation Lakes Provincial Park (1 review)
    - My solo kayak trip of 2016
    National Parks • Parks
It has been too long! I spent 8 days and traveled 120 kilometers along one of the coolest and quietest canoe routes in the North. This was in 2016. The only reason I haven't been back has to do with fires in the Fort st. James area in 2017 and 2018. This route has only a couple of spots that are inhabited. It is quiet and the scenery is spectacular. The spectacular scenery is especially true of the top two lakes: Tsayta and Indata where the Provincial Park is. The marine-access-only campsites appeared reasonably well cared for given the remoteness of this location which requires a drive up about 200k of logging roads from the town of Fort St. James. Bring an axe! I'd include pictures but I drowned my camera on day 2 of this trip and have never found it. Be wary of the first leg of the Nation River as that is where I capsized the kayak thus losing my Canon Rebel! See more..
