Was not expecting to go through a treacherous driving route to get to this mine. The drive included an unpaved narrow road around bends off mountain sides... at times only wide enough for one car though it’s a main road. As you get closer to the actual mine the hill is steep and completely off road. Fortunately we were travelling in a wrangler and made it down and back up safely. I would recommend parking at the last sign that says mine to the left and hike down and hike back up. The walk will be 5-10 mins down and maybe 10-15 on the way back up. It’s very secluded so beware because you’re in a forest. See more..

    - Gold Country Geotourism: Highland Valley Copper Mine
    Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Mines
As we continued on our geocaching trip, we saw what we thought was a very large turquoise lake but as we got closer, we realized it was a huge tailing pond created by the Highland Valley Copper Mine. We learned this open pit copper mine, located near Logan Lake, was the largest in Canada. In an attempt to keep the copper and molybdenum by-products from the environment, resulting pits filled with tailings to form a lake-like structure scaring the earth's surface forever. See more..
  3. 5.0 Gold Country Geotourism (1 review)
    - Geocaching Road Trip: Cache Creek Gold Country Geotourism Trip
Friday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Spent 1-2 hours Cemeteries • Mines • Scenic Walking Areas
As avid geocachers, my sister and I visited Cache Creek known for its geotourism. Located at the junction of the TransCanada Highway and Cariboo Highway 97, Cache Greek was an important hub during the Gold Rush era in British Columbia. Our visit to this historical town was to participate in their "Gold Country Geotourism". It is a great way to explore both the town and local area. Using our hand-held GPS, we did some modern treasure hunting and found four (4) geocaches and collected a "Gold Country Geotourism" sticker for each. We discovered this area has an annual geocaching event that we have put on our future to-do list. See more..
