Hayward Lake Reservoir, British Columbia, Canada

4.5 (59 reviews) Spent Ranking #3 in Mission Bodies of Water

Great Place for families

Family fun and picnic, 13 of us went and stayed for 8 hours. The kids had lots of fun in the lake, it really is a beautiful spot, we go there a lot. Best tip Arrive early. The place gets packed quickly and they often shut down the main parking because it fills up quickly and secondary parking is quite a hike.

Came back for the beach - Awesome
Clean, accessible, and good toilets. Ultimately, other than the sunshine and sand, these are the things one wants at the beach. The boat launch has been turned into an access point for canoes and non-motorized water crafts only which changes the whole experience at this lake into a much more quiet and pleasant environment. We canoed across the lake in about 15 minutes, had our picnic there, and swam from that shore line which was unfortunately a lot muddier than the starting point. So there is a bit of a trade off when going across to the other side of the lake: more privacy, but not as nice of a sandy waterfront. Although we were there on one of the busiest beach days of the summer (Labour Day), there was still enough parking and space for more people, so that was the main reason we went there. Previous stat holidays, we tried Buntzen Lake and got turned away because the parking lot was too full. You can also visit the awesome Visitor Centre for the Power House and Dam which provides lots of fascinating hands-on learning experiences for children and the tour gives a great history for the facility, but that is another 'trip' in itself. You can combine the two if you have the whole day to do both. Bring your picnic and paddle boards, or whatever you use for playing in the water and enjoy.

Lovely afternoon swim with the family.
We spent 3 hours at this lake. There is ample parking during the week and free too. The beach is easily accessible from the parking lot. There are clean washrooms, taps for dirty feet at the end when you are returning to your car. At the beach there is clean white sand, and clear greenish blue water which is very swimmable for kids and adults alike. There are BC Hydro workers walking around the park making sure everyone is safe and there was even a police officer which made me feel safe. Lots of people are in the water doing various activities from paddle boarding to kayaking. It is close to the Stave Falls Power House which is a neat museum and only 30 minutes from Abbotsford. Love it!
