More to explore

Great place only accessible by watercraft you must cross pit Lake to get to Widgon slough /Creek. You cannot access S Park from the Quarry Road on the west side of pet River 9 km down you will encounter a locked gate! As you travel down a dusty road with a bunch of dump trucks carrying rocks. So don’t go to that side stick to the east side head up to the pit Lake boat launch. There are no bathrooms. There is no swimming. There is a location to put in your kayak or a paddle board as well as location to drop your trailers vessel. I only managed to paddle to the first to the first each up a slew as we were in a time crunch. Next time I will allow more time. I swam at the little beach and also took a few dips off of our SUPs. Beautiful seaweed grass I can’t wait to go see the waterfalls

    Great Place To Explore
This is an area not frequented by the masses, but is a wonderful place to spend a few hours. It is best accessed by canoe (which can be rented at the starting site in season) or kayak. The crossing from the boat launch to the entrance to the slough can involve currents, depending on how the tide is running, but it is not a great distance and is unlikely to cause trouble. (Just don't go down the Pitt River with the current, or you will have a fight getting back, or have to wait for the tide to turn.) The area where you access the slough is most scenic to start with, as you have excellent views of the mountains surrounding Pitt Lake. Once you are in the slough the water will be calm and you can meander up the channels. Once you go as far as you can (and you can't really get lost), there is a place to disembark, and you can also camp there, but don't expect services, so bring everything with you. From the landing spot there is a clear trail to the north that goes for some distance, and you can take it to an attractive area to the right of the main trail where smooth rocks along the creek create lovely small pools and pour-offs. In summer these are attractive to play in. Depending on the levels of the tide, the water may be very shallow by the time you get to the landing spot. If this is the case, just get out of the canoe and pull it along. If the tide is very high or there are flood conditions, the channels where you can paddle is increased. At any time of the year this is a scenic spot, but summer enables you to play in the creek, which is a bonus. If you prepared and up to it, the landing area at Widgeon Creek is the start of a trail to Widgeon Lake, a challenging hike of over five miles one way way up in the mountains. This is a lightly travelled route, so be prepared. However, the prize is to discover a Rocky Mountain type gorgeous lake surrounded by cliffs and very isolated. You may well have it all to yourself. The last time I went a long time ago, the turnoff from the main trail was not marked as such, so be sure to get directions ahead of time. It is certainly worth it.
