  3. 5.0 Ashuwillticook Rail Trail (168 reviews)
    - Excellent Rail Trail
    Hiking Trails
    Ashuwillticook Rail Trail image
This rail trail has it all. It has ample parking, bathrooms at the trail head, and gorgeous scenery. My phone took me right to the parking lot near the intersection of Berkshire Mall Rd and Cheshire Rd. The trail is beautifully maintained. I biked it for 4 miles before turning back towards the parking lot. It runs straight and flat, an easy ride. As one approaches the three mile mark, a long narrow lake opens up on one’s left with incredible views of the mountain ridge running parallel to the trail. A great trail for biking and other activities. See more..

  5. 4.5 Deer Island HarborWalk (95 reviews)
    - Always a good walk
    Hiking Trails
    Deer Island HarborWalk image
Foggy day yesterday, you couldn't see the tops of the Digesters or Boston or the airport. Every now and then you'd hear a plane. We were especially looking for the new Irish Memorial at Deer Island, and only found it due to the fortuitous timing of a shoe needing retying. This memorial is on the "upper level" as it was, sort of facing Logan airport, close-ish to where Bella is remembered and above the panel remembering the Native Americans who perished on the site. You do have to climb about 40 feet of path to get to the memorial, I've attached a picture See more..

The DCR keeps this place clean and clear. Trails are well marked and seem to eventually end up on the paved road. I enjoy the beauty of nature, the activities they offer each season, (fun run, maple syruping, etc). Parking is free. There is a beach in the hot weather. It's a great place to walk or hike if you want shade and to get away from cars. There is a playground and a dog park. It just has so much to offer. See more..

    - Enjoy the trail year-round
Spent < 1 hour Hiking Trails
    Nashua River Rail Trail image
In every season, this trail is a wonderful place. It can get busy on sunny weekends in summer and fall. For more peaceful experiences, choose early mornings or winter days. The trail goes past some residential areas, yet it still feels like a park. The prime section of the trail is the 2.5-mile stretch between Rt. 113 in Pepperell and Sand Hill Road in Groton (Massachusetts). There are no road crossings in that stretch, the Nashua River is at its loveliest, and there's an ice cream stand on summer weekends at the Pepperell end. See more..

    - Wedding of the century
Sunday: 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM Hiking Trails
Gibbet Hill Barn and Trails image
This was the best wedding I've ever gone to. And much of the raves go to the Barn, staff, facility, food, etc. We had a string quartet, a super 7 member band that kept going and going. Unbelievable canapes, bar staff, dinner, dessert room, plenty of coffee, tea, etc. Unbelievable lux hot chocolate for the cold evening. Very clean bathrooms. Well decorated hall. They abided by the covid protocols so we felt safe. Attentive staff to our every needs-very personable. What a great place. Oh, and the food was great, creative recipes and combinations. And they were able to attend to dietary issues. See more..

It doesn't matter what time of year, or where you join the walk-- it's just a beautiful way to experience the power and majesty of the Atlantic ocean. Check the prevailing winds before you go, so you can be prepared clothing-wise. Like most Nantucket activities, it can be quite magical. View lots of seal families swimming by as they go to and from their resting grounds at Great Point. Walk as short or long as you like! See more..
  15. 4.5 Ashland State Park (27 reviews)
    - A nice place for a walk
Spent More than 3 hours State Parks • Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails
    Ashland State Park image
I've come here a few times with my friend and her dog. We've parked at the Community Center and also on the other side of the park on Spring Street near the boat launch. To do a loop around the reservoir is about 3 miles. There are a few geocaches hidden in the park, which I enjoyed finding. There is an entrance fee during the summer if you drive in from the Community Center to the swimming area, but you can avoid that by parking and walking. See more..

  20. 4.0 Cascading Waters (22 reviews)
    - directions to cascade park
    Hiking Trails
    Cascading Waters image
It's a beautiful waterfall but only after there has been lots of rain, especially when the Spring snow melts. If it hasn't rained you'll probably see nothing but a trickle coming down the cascade. But the cascade is not on Cascade Street (the map is wrong). You have to go up one more street to Cataract Street. Go down just past last house on the left and you enter the park. Cascade is about 1/4 mile further on the left. There's a bridge over the cascade stream. Watch out if you go further on the road past the bridge, there is a drop in the road, probably 4-6 inches. See more..

    - Enchanted forest

    Mount Misery image
We are so lucky to live close to the Mount Misery Reservation! It was a lifesaver for us during the lockdown. This reservation has it all: a maze of well-marked groomed trails, lovely ponds covered with blossoming lilies, marshy spots, picturesque Sudbury river and the big farm bordering the forest. The parking area is small but you can park at the nearby canoe dock parking lot and walk towards the woods. The forest looks gorgeous during foliage days... All shades of yellow and red reflecting in the dark ponds... Pure magic! See more..
  25. 4.5 Bay Circuit Trail (15 reviews)
    - Many places to get on the Bay circuit trail
    Hiking Trails
    Bay Circuit Trail image
I've run parts of the Bay Circuit Trail in Andover (and beyond). Generally there are a number of trails that link up to make up the BCT. In Andover one of the better places to park would be at the Ward Reservation on Prospect Road. Check out baycircuit dot org for plenty of maps and trail descriptions. See more..

  27. 4.5 Emerson-Thoreau Amble (11 reviews)
    - Thoreau's Paradise
    Spent 2-3 hours Hiking Trails
    Emerson-Thoreau Amble image
Walden Pond is a serene scenic area where Ralph Waldo Emerson reflected in thought and Henry David Thoreau lived in a small cabin for a little over two years taking copious notes on his interactions with nature and the locals who visited him on a regular basis. For Thoreau it was an experiment with nature and we are the beneficiary of his work "Walden". The park service has located the actual site (there is a stone marker) where the cabin was built in the 1800's and have built a replica near the entrance for all to explore. The pond has a path around the circumference that you can walk and enjoy just like Henry and Ralph did in their day. If you want maximum intellectual and emotional impact read "Walden" before or just after the visit. And for the bigger picture read Ralph's "Nature". See more..

    Charles River Greenway image
Beautiful paved walkway alongside the Charles River, mostly shaded with lots of trees and underbrush. Hiking Trails
    Hassanamesit Woods image
My son is seven and this is the perfect place to go for a hike and also just a short drive from where we live so it gives us the opportunity to walk in the woods more often than we would be able to otherwise. There is a really cool old foundation of rocks and an old well that were made years and years ago that is fun to see and imagine how they lived before there were established roads, house, etc. in Grafton. There is parking at the entrance of the park and quite a few trails to walk in for families. See more..

  38. 4.5 Moseley Woods Park (5 reviews)
    - A hidden treasure
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails • Forests
    Moseley Woods Park image
This easily accessible park, a woodland on the shores of the Merrimack River in Newburyport, affords several miles of trails and spectacular views of the river that you cannot get anywhere else. It is also a rare opportunity to behold I-95's John Greenleaf Whittier bridge, a network tied arch design, as a work of art. There is well-marked parking, and the park is clearly no secret to locals, who appear to use it avidly. That said, there are sitting benches and picnic benches well-placed throughout, and plenty of quiet, private spots to gaze at the river, or "bathe" in the splendid woods. You will, of course, hear the interstate traffic as you get close to that edge of the park, but one hears that sort of noise all the time in the modern world, only without the beauty, so enjoy the unique juxtapose. Spent the late morning/early afternoon at this lovely wildlife refuge. It has numerous trails (most of them loop trails), and they are all fairly easy to navigate. 41. 4.0 Chebacco Woods Trail (3 reviews)
    - Nice easy trail, winter or summer

Hiked this trail many times, in all seasons. Unless there has been a lot of snow, it requires traction devices (at a minimum) in winter; due to its popularity, it can get 'tracked out' and quite ice. See more..

  43. 5.0 Rutland Brook Wildlife Sanctuary (3 reviews)
    - Have you ever seen a porcupine den?
    Hiking Trails
    Rutland Brook Wildlife Sanctuary image
First time visit and loved this beautiful woodland reserve. There are several different trails, but not super extensive, all of which inter-link allowing for short or long hikes. We walked all of the trails which took about an hour and 20 minutes with some stops along the way. Some of the trails I would consider “intermediate” moderate hiking with elevations present. The trails are well marked and are very scenic with bubbling streams, mossy rocks, old rock walls and many different tree varieties. We hiked to the porcupine den but did not see anything, but we did see a large turkey vulture, beaver dams and the interesting shagbark hickory tree. Well worth seeking out if you enjoy isolated hiking. See more..
  44. 4.5 Rattlesnake Gutter Conservation Area (2 reviews)
    - Lovely cool hike in a glacial ravine
    Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails
Rattlesnake Gutter is a lovely road in Leverett, MA that was closed to vehicular traffic over 10 years ago, but is open for hiking and biking and trail rides, as well as rock-climbing. The old road is an easy walk, and there are some recently-marked trails up the side of the ravine that are intermediate-level hiking. A nice loop from the Montague Rd end of the road takes you up the ravine, then a quick climb to the top, and back down along the top of the ravine. If it has rained recently there are a handful of pretty waterfalls adjacent to the road. Can be a nice stroll for a family or a more strenuous climb and exploration. Not too bad with mosquitos. Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
    Reformatory Branch Trail image
This trail is located about 0.3 miles from the Bedford depot. The trail is hard packed and other than a couple muddy and sandy spots is a fairly smooth ride. Along the way there are some sites of historical interest that are worth a stop. The Great Meadow Wildlife Refuge is also along the trail, and although bikes are not allowed on those trails, it is a beautiful spot to get off the bikes and explore. There are enough trails in this location that you could spend from an hour to a whole day riding. See more..

  50. 4.0 Whipple Hill Loop (1 review)
    - 裏山という感じですが、意外に楽しめます
    Hiking Trails
