James Library & Center for the Arts image
I attended the Boston Cello Quartet (four cellists from the Boston Symphony Orchestra) concert at the James in October of 2015. What an amazing afternoon! The talent that this small arts nonprofit gets is incredible. Their concert hall has amazing acoustics and the audience (no more than 80 or 90 people) is very close to the musicians, making for an intimate, exciting concert. After the concert, the musicians did a signing and joined the audience in the art gallery for a reception. It was a great event. Well worth the $25 ticket price. I will certainly be going back to the James in the future! See more..

    - Sincere and unique art! And you can buy it!
Monday: 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality & Gift Shops • Art Galleries
    Gateway Arts image
Gateway Arts is a gallery and shop, and a place for disabled artists to make art. The public may not be aware of the latter, because the storefront is just that, a store with excellent displays (because the art is so good). It is in a charming walkable neighborhood in Brookline, so you will be able to walk down the block to a coffee shop and admire your purchase(s), too. I couldn't resist an embroidered pillow that lured me in. Very colorful, and it vibrates with passion and soul. The price tag indicated that it is the flag of France, see the photo I have attached. A great place to do some holiday shopping or indulge in something that you can't resist. And you will be helping support their excellent art program and the artists, too (they receive a nice chunk of the proceeds on the work they sell.) Go, go, go!!! See more..

  47. 5.0 Waltham Mills Artists Association (1 review)
    - An Artsy Gem Find
    Art Galleries • Art Museums
Once a year Waltham Mills Artist Association (Waltham Mills Open Studios) opens its doors to the public. These local Artist’s, who work in their own open air studio, allow the community to enter their creative world, as they engage with people, and agree to sell their most prized pieces of art. I found this art showing to be a wonderful opportunity for someone to quietly browse the many levels of works within the massive buildings, and pick up some fine pieces to take home. I was truly taken back at how humble and kind each Artist was. While hosting their individual showings, the Artist’s answered questions, and engaged with the many members of the community who passed through their personal space. This year’s showing was on November 3rd & 4th. If you are interested in attending the annual showing, google search their website and sign up for their email. It is referred to as “Waltham Mills Open Studios”, and I believe Waltham Mills Artist Association (WMAA) runs it. This was was my first time attending, and I will definitely go back next year! 50. Ellen Rolli, Contemporary Painter (0 review)
    Spent 1-2 hours Art Galleries
As a contemporary painter, I am interested in interpreting subject and emotion in an abstract, intuitive way. The process, daring paint application, color, texture, and the element of discovery inspire me. In my process, I use materials instinctively. This allows more freedom, more risk-taking. As a painting evolves, I react to the dialogue between us. See more..
