The Shining Sea Bikeway is one of the best biking / walking paths that I have enjoyed. It is a rail - trail that runs along the site of a former train route; so, the path is relatively flat with few hills to climb. The path stretches for 10.7 miles from the harbor in Woods Hole to North Falmouth and along the way you'll see cranberry bogs, salt water marshes, and many quintessential New England homes. The path is very well maintained and marked. I can think of no better way to spend some time on land in Cape Cod and get some great exercise.See more..
This area along the banks of the Charles where the river broadens into the basin is one of the nicest spots in town for a walk, run, or ride when the weather is pleasant. The flowering trees along the water definitely make it worth a visit in early May. See more..

4.5Fresh Pond Reservation(71 reviews) - A Lovely Place to Walk, Especially if you are a Dog lover Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Jogging Paths & Tracks
I love walking around Fresh Pond- Even in the winter months with the trees bare and the ground frozen. It feels like you are miles away from the city. People walk their dogs here all the time- good thing I like dogs. Many let their dogs run free. I've only an an issue once where a dog was pretty aggressive- the owner finally got a clue and put him on leash. Definitely worth the walk.See more..

Just took the dog for a walk down the Independence Greenway Rail Trail today--it's really convenient and takes you through a more peaceful part of town. I'm glad the city of Peabody invested so much into this trail. Definitely surprised there weren't more families out today riding their bikes! I just hope that the city extends the trail to cross under I-95/rt-1 so users don't have to get onto Lowell Rd. anymore.See more..
4.5Mass Central Rail Trail(19 reviews) - Mass Central Rail Trail Spent < 1 hour Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
Pleasant walk on stone dust. It’s plenty wide enough for all. It’s been very quiet on all of the days we have walked. It takes about 35 minutes to walk from the beginning to the end. You can get to the pond in about 25 minutes from the Sterling center starting point. There is parking available at the other end.See more..

Had a fantastic hike on the trail today. The weather was perfect! Blue sky, cool air, trees beginning to turn, and marvelous trails (very well cared for). Cyclists on trail were extremely respectful and friendly. The scenery was amazing! I’d love to come back in a few weeks to see the leaves further in change...but if I don’t today was amazing!See more..

This is a rail trail that runs 3 miles from Bedford depot to Billerica. It is primarily a pack dirt surface that is best for mountain bikes. The trail runs through the York Conservation Area and also past Fawn Lake. There are a few short hiking trails along the way if you want to get off the bike and stretch your legs. Along with the Reformatory Branch and the Minuteman trail this area offers a day full of riding.See more..

4.5Assabet River Trail(2 reviews) - Nice, clean, easy bike trail. Try it, you'll like it. Biking Trails We parked in the Hudson street lot and it wasn't as much uphill as I was expecting based on prior reviews. It was actually very easy. The trail was clean and not over crowded for a beautiful Sunday afternoon. When we got to Marlborough I couldn't find the route in town. I'm not sure if it ended or I just didn't see the sign. But it was too late I had gone down a steep hill so it was a challenge to get back to the trail head. Heading back to the Hudson lot was a breeze. I just I had some cash to buy an ice cream at the place right off the trail.See more..
This trail is located about 0.3 miles from the Bedford depot. The trail is hard packed and other than a couple muddy and sandy spots is a fairly smooth ride. Along the way there are some sites of historical interest that are worth a stop. The Great Meadow Wildlife Refuge is also along the trail, and although bikes are not allowed on those trails, it is a beautiful spot to get off the bikes and explore. There are enough trails in this location that you could spend from an hour to a whole day riding.See more..
The Border to Boston Trail now runs for a little over 10 miles, running through Peabody, Danvers, Topsfield and Boxford. The trail is fairly smooth the entire way and has no major inclines. There are some road crossings, but all are marked by crosswalks and most have flashing alert lights. The northern section is known as the Topsfield Linear Common and the southern part the Danvers Rail Trail. There is plenty of cover which makes it nice on a hot day.See more..

5.0Upperfalls Greenway(1 review) - A hidden gem in Upper Falls Biking Trails Very easy walking trail behind the stores on Needham Street. Starts behind National Lumber and goes to the edge of the Charles River. You do have to cross Chestnut Street, but it quickly gets very “forest-y” as you near the river. Not a long walk, but easy to get to, lots of parking in the retail lots, and a nice respite from the world. End to end and back in under an hourSee more..
