Hiked the Bentley Loop trail today with 11, 12, 14 year olds. Took a couple hours including one stop to sit in the meadow and have a snack. Lots of up and down, trail gets steep in some areas but in a good way. Fairly well marked, we had to ask fellow hikers for direction a couple times. Great trail, enjoyed by everyone.See more..

4.5DAR State Forest(53 reviews) - Great campground State Parks • Forests
Absolutely loved the campground. Plenty of trails to hike, great camp sites for rent and plenty of other activities to keep you occupied. The campground fee was cheap at $17 for MA residents. Just be mindful that they require you to buy their firewood.See more..
4.0Ames Nowell State Park(14 reviews) - Nice spot for Families Spent 1-2 hours State Parks • Forests
Ames Park is a beautiful park to visit. its tucked away near a residential area and if you are not local, you would not know its here. We were told about it because of our friends we stayed with. The park is very nice and quiet with lots of clean and well maintained trails. the main trail around the entire pond is fantastic and very long. There are lots of tables as well for folks to have picnics and spend time with families. The pond has lots of fish, so there are always people out fishing all around the lake. Lots of parking as well.See more..

Hapgood Wright, a town resident in the Colonial Era, left this land to the town of Concord ( which was settled in 1636 !) for use as a town forest in perpetuity. There are hiking trails in the woods, great scenery, many varieties of plant life and trees…lots of birds and we saw a giant snapping turtle. Its only a few thousand feet from Walden Woods where famous Walden Pond is located…..a "pond" which is 3200 feet long, and 107 feet deep, and which has Jelly Fish ! I know, I thought they were only in the ocean too !See more..

4.5Moseley Woods Park(5 reviews) - A hidden treasure Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails • Forests
This easily accessible park, a woodland on the shores of the Merrimack River in Newburyport, affords several miles of trails and spectacular views of the river that you cannot get anywhere else. It is also a rare opportunity to behold I-95's John Greenleaf Whittier bridge, a network tied arch design, as a work of art. There is well-marked parking, and the park is clearly no secret to locals, who appear to use it avidly. That said, there are sitting benches and picnic benches well-placed throughout, and plenty of quiet, private spots to gaze at the river, or "bathe" in the splendid woods. You will, of course, hear the interstate traffic as you get close to that edge of the park, but one hears that sort of noise all the time in the modern world, only without the beauty, so enjoy the unique juxtapose.See more..
The wide trail has lots of stones and keeps going up to Sanderson Brook Falls. At certain points, the incline feels a bit steep. The trail has a canopy of tall trees, two bridges and a wooden sign shaped in an arrow that has waterfall on it high on a tree trunk which is not at eye level. It points to the narrow descending trail on the right. Sanderson Brook Falls does not have much water and is slightly hidden so one has to reach as far as one can towards the left. There is a parking lot along Rt. 20 but there is no porta potty. Beyond the sign to the waterfall, the trail continues up but there is no sign saying what is there.See more..
I loved this. There’s plenty of walking trials, so you’re not overlapping with anyone. It was so peaceful and serene. This was about an hour of a walk, maybe a little longer, but it wasn’t bad. Make sure you watch the line markers on the tree to follow the path and stay hydrated! There’s barrooms at the entrance, too. See more..
5.0H. O. Cook State Forest(2 reviews) - Appreciate finding it mentioned State Parks • Forests I grew up on the south end of Heath, my grandfather was in the CCC that planted it. There are no formal facilities but wilderness camping is possible, my family camped there several times as a kid. I remember a large area with trees and thick moss underfoot, a small stream nearby we used for refrigeration by submersing food in jars. A magical place, 20 minutes from where I live now. I hope to spend time there taking photos this summer. These categories are absurd.See more..
