    - What - Motif No 1 Again!
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    Motif Number 1 image
My wife and I enjoyed seeing the replica of a 1840 fishing shack now located in Bearskin Neck. I recall seeing a shack like this in a movie or two, but didn't know the history. For those who haven't research it, this is why the shack is called Motif 1. "Built around the time of the Civil War, its prominent position at the end of the pier made it a natural backdrop for artists painting harbor pictures. Finally in the early 1930s, while critiquing a group of students’ pictures, several of which featured the little red shack, Lester Hornby, using a term often employed by French students to describe frequently painted sites, exclaimed, “What – Motif No. 1 again!” His fateful words stuck and since then the little red shack has been referred to as “Motif No. 1.”" See more..

The Wayside Inn Historic Site image
nice historic property. Stopped in for a lunch. The menu was simple. Not a whole lot of choices but each of our party had different items and each complimented on their item. Our waitress was knowledgable of the property and its history. The prices were fair and serive were prompt. The corn muffins as well as the wheat rolls were ground at thier mill. They did not taste "processed", it had more flavor, I could swear that you could taste honey in the corn muffins, but looking at their recipe, there is not. There is a gift shop if you want to take some it home and it was reasonable in price as well. See more..

The epicenter of Arlo Guthrie's "Alice's Restaurant." The events that took place on Thanksgiving 1965 became a song, the song became a record, the record a movie. The movie was filmed in 1968 where the actual events took place on location at The Old Trinity Church, which became The Guthrie Center founded by Arlo Guthrie, and named for his parents, Woody & Marjorie Guthrie in 1991. The Center continues the Guthrie Family philosophy of a place for interfaith worship, cultural exchange especially with music and art, and of course a place to eat (during seasonal performances). 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the "Alice's Restaurant Massacree" and the old church will celebrate in style with services and performances that will put a smile on your face and nourish your heart.
