Gloucester Fishermen's Wives Memorial, Massachusetts, United States

A lovely tribute on a beautiful walkway

It's a touching and welcome thing to have a monument dedicated to the fishermen's wives in Gloucester, a short distance away from that which remembers fishermen lost at sea. This community honors the importance and value of the contribution made by women to this city and its people. The entire walk along the coast here is quite lovely, so if you're in town, I'd highly recommend taking the time for a stroll.

    Great tribute
A statue dedicated to Fishermen wives. The statue overlooks the harbor. It is an honorable statue depicting the challenges women and families face when sailors go out to sea. I cannot begin to image what must go through the minds of the countless families who have waited for a loved one to come back after they go to work on the open seas. What a tribute made by the people of Gloucester. It is situated in a beautiful park with beautiful landscaping. Many people are seen walking with families and pets.

A Nice Tribute to the Lost Fishermen!
Being the first time in Gloucester, we were told that a drive along the shoreline would be a good way to be introduced to the area. Once getting onto the seaside roadway, we stopped and took a stroll down the walkway intended to take advantage of the beautiful scenery. We came upon this Statue which we learned was the Gloucester Fishermen's Wives Memorial, dedicated to the wives and families of lost fisherman. Gloucester is fishing village that was the backdrop for the Movie, "The Perfect Storm". The Memorial is situated to show a woman and her children looking toward the ocean, trying to gain sight of her returning husband - fisherman. It is a moving memorial and it's placement seems to be a place where wives might have waited for their spouses, a befitting Iconic work of art.
