We arrived here on a rainy morning at 11AM. After paying $14 each senior, our hands were stamped (permitting our re-entry) then we used the nice restrooms before entering the 8,000 sq ft enclosure. There were many parents and grandparents ushering their amazed kids through the aisles discovering some of the 4000 colorful butterflies. They would perch on feeders or their favorite flower offering nice poses for all sizes of people. A small koi pond with a waterfall was also popular. Docents were staged for greeting, answering questions and ensuring calm behavior. At the exit was a large terrarium display of exotic frogs, insects and small reptiles.See more..

4.0The Butterfly Place(211 reviews) - Spendy for such a small place. Nature & Wildlife Areas
This place is good for a 30 minute visit, not much more. It was fun to see all the beautiful butterflies, and if you sit down they often will light on you. Wear bright colors they say. They have zebra finches here too, that are delightful. A fun visit for young children, especially girls. It's a relatively small place however, and much more than 30 minutes, one can get bored. They have a smallish pond with goldfish in it, and the butterflies seem to congregate around this portion. Wish it was much, much bigger. Not really worth the price...as it was spendy for such a short amount of time there. The butterflies are exquisite though.See more..

4.5Winter Island Park(139 reviews) - A Spectacular Summer Evening in Winter Island Park Nature & Wildlife Areas
We attended a party at the Winter Island Function Hall on a beautiful summer evening. On what had been a humid day, the temperature was perfect on the island thanks to the ocean breeze. A wide porch with seating surrounds the two water-facing sides of the building, making the function hall an ideal venue for indoor/outdoor events. The asymetric rocky shoreline provides a perfect backdrop for selfies and photoshoots, especially at sunset. Inside the comfortable function hall is a floor to ceiling fireplace that adds to the ambiance of the seaside structure. A grassy area flanks the building and is a safe space for children to blow off steam or to host a game of corn hole. Also on the unique property in the Witch City is a beach and a campground that can accommodate tents, campers, and RVs. Salem decision-makers have been wise to preserve Winter Island Park as a North Shore treasure.See more..

4.5Mount Tom State Reservation(106 reviews) - Beautiful Park Great Day Trip! State Parks • Nature & Wildlife Areas
We drove out here mid October from Eastern Mass. The foliage was unbelievable in the park, full peak. We arrived and drove by Bray Lake on the left. There were restrooms that were open. We drove further into the park, plenty of hiking trails. We parked (playground by the hiking area) and went to Goat Peak Observation. Short hike up, pretty easy and the last 10 mins is more uphill but still easy. When you get to the top, go to the right, there is an overlook with great views of the town below. The go to the left up the stairs to the Fire Tower stairs with an even better view of what's around. Drove back to Bray Lake, parked there and walked in the woods, a little confusing on where the trails go but we figure it out for the most part. Nice hike through the woods. Good day here, nice views, good hikes. Next time we will come early and hike Mt. Tom.See more..
Excellent hike on a rainy day. Parked at the south entrance and hiked to observation tower with my 5 year old. It is steep from the lot to the observation area, but not overly challenging. Best route for kids that are sure footed hikers. I would probably not bring my clumsy 12 year old this way. Hiked back down the back way which is much more of a gentler slope, just a longer hike. Had a blast. Views would have been great had it not been raining. Had a great time anyway.See more..

4.5Green Hill Park(71 reviews) - Very attractive park with many activities Sunday: Nature & Wildlife Areas
We have passed this park many, many times when we were in Worcester, but this was the first time that we drove in. Being from the desert, we were completely overcome by all the bright green shrubbery, and the huge trees. How lovely! Maybe on the weekend, it is crowded, but today (Thursday 6/25), there were not that many people, so we could drive slowly, and absorb it all. We saw many nicely placed picnic tables, we saw ponds, we visited the beautiful golf course, we saw walking paths, and biking trails. The very peaceful Vietnam Veterans Memorial is there. A small farm is on the grounds, as well as a children's playground, play fields, and a skateboarding area. Everything looked well maintained and cared for. So lucky for a City to have such a lovely park.See more..
4.5Fresh Pond Reservation(71 reviews) - A Lovely Place to Walk, Especially if you are a Dog lover Biking Trails • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Jogging Paths & Tracks
I love walking around Fresh Pond- Even in the winter months with the trees bare and the ground frozen. It feels like you are miles away from the city. People walk their dogs here all the time- good thing I like dogs. Many let their dogs run free. I've only an an issue once where a dog was pretty aggressive- the owner finally got a clue and put him on leash. Definitely worth the walk.See more..

4.5Moore State Park(48 reviews) - Best in May and June! Nature & Wildlife Areas
Moore State Park has been the site of grist mills and saw mills since 1747. A visit to the park reveals several areas with stone foundations that date back hundreds of years. Today, a recreated saw mill still sits on one of the sites with the mill pond behind and a splendid waterfall below. The wooded paths and hiking trails are filled with rhododendrons, azaleas, and mountain laurel that are in full bloom in May and June. Wildflowers abound from early spring to fall. The 400 acre park has walking trails that go around the pond, and down the hillside to the lower park where the view of the falls is superb. Admission is free and parking is easy. I highly recommend a visit to this lovely nature preserve.See more..

Winslow Farm Animal Awareness is a non-profit charitable organization devoted to the rescue and care of abandoned and mistreated animals. Established in 1996, Winslow Farm exists for one purpose: to provide love and care to the many animals without a home or for those that have been abused and/or neglected by their previous owners. A sanctuary where animals can learn to trust humans once again. In the fall of 1997, Winslow Farm opened it's doors to the public as an animal farm, offering the public an opportunity to meet and interact with the 183 animals that live on the farm. In addition to an animal sanctuary, Winslow Farm offers a variety of animal-oriented activities, including birthday parties for children, pony rides, group educational tours, nature hikes and trails, as well as special events occurring during the holiday seasons. These activities serve to educate the public about neglected, abused, and abandoned animals, general animal care, and allows animals the exposure to a population of "good" humans that these animals can learn to trust. Our Mission is to provide a high quality "stay-for-life" animal sanctuary, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and care of mistreated and abandoned animals, to promote the prevention of animal mistreatment through quality educational programs and events, and to advocate the preservation of wildlife habitat.See more..

I hiked here on my recent trip to Concord. I hiked the dike trail and it was a gorgeous day! If you go early in the day, you're more likely to see a variety of birds. The trail is mostly flat, although there is a small segment that goes through the woods. There is a nominal fee at the parking lot (think it was $4) but it wasn't very crowded when I arrived and only saw 5 or 6 people while there. I highly recommend this trail and will definitely visit again next time I'm in the area.See more..
We visited with a large group of kids & adults. I had no idea that this place existed until very recently. What a hidden gem! There is a building with bathrooms & information. You can take a quick hike or walk for hours. Looked like many great fishing spots. We saw tons of small wildlife as well. You can walk along the river and it ends in a huge man made waterfall. There are picnic tables, an outdoor water fountain and electrical outlets so good spot for a picnic. Because of the weather, lots of the paths were flooded, but most of the paths were very flat & easy to walk.See more..
