Moore State Park, Massachusetts, United States
4.5 (48 reviews) Spent Ranking #1 in Paxton Nature & Wildlife Areas
Best in May and June!
Moore State Park has been the site of grist mills and saw mills since 1747. A visit to the park reveals several areas with stone foundations that date back hundreds of years. Today, a recreated saw mill still sits on one of the sites with the mill pond behind and a splendid waterfall below. The wooded paths and hiking trails are filled with rhododendrons, azaleas, and mountain laurel that are in full bloom in May and June. Wildflowers abound from early spring to fall. The 400 acre park has walking trails that go around the pond, and down the hillside to the lower park where the view of the falls is superb. Admission is free and parking is easy. I highly recommend a visit to this lovely nature preserve.

Nice park but too crowded
Nice state property but just missed the Rhododendron/Azalea blooms. There are a variety of hikes to mix and match; nothing difficult. Scenic views of the pond and an old sawmill is the focal point of the park (“mill village”). It was quite busy and parking almost full on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I believe there was one restroom in the parking lot, but was closed due to COVID. If you’re seeking a peaceful day in nature, an off-season visit may make sense. But otherwise pack a lunch and enjoy this beautiful park along with everyone else.
