The Rollstone Hill "Rock Walk" an extraordinarily scenic, two mile narrated and historical walk from Fitchburg's Upper Common, to the summit of Rollstone Hill. The story and history of the Rollstone Boulder, the quarries, and several other interesting sites along the way will be explored, and the historical and cultural influence they had on our city will be discussed.

    Interesting, fun activity!
    We are a local outdoor group who took the "Rock Walk" tour to Rollstone Hill after contacting the Boulder Art Gallery to make arrangements. We were quite impressed with the history and stories that were told along the way and never realized Fitchburg had such a fascinating and interesting history. We walked past churches, public artwork, historic buildings, bridges, parks and more, all of which had an incredible story to tell. One of the highlights was the urban graffiti at the quarry. The quality of some of the art was totally unexpected! A fun, interesting activity I would do again.

    Informative Field Trip
    We had the pleasure of taking 20 students, grades 5-8 on the Rollstone Hill Rock Tour. Mr. C delivered an informative, in-depth, and interesting tour of Fitchburg. Starting at the famed Rollstone Boulder on the upper common, he shared information on how the Boulder came to that site. Mr. C. then went on to cover the extensive history of the city from famous artists to architecture, just around the upper common. Despite the cold blustery weather, he kept our middle schoolers engaged and interested (not an easy feat). I highly recommend any history buffs or families to take the time to learn more about the extensive and storied history of Fitchburg. You’ll see and learn about all the hidden gems in plain sight. Don’t miss it!
