  4. 5.0 Putnam Street Lanes (4 reviews)
    - Oldest bowling alley in the USA?
Sunday: 12:00 PM - 11:00 PM Bowling Alleys
The Putnam Lanes bowling alley, at the top of a long staircase on the second floor, may be the oldest bowling alley, according to a researcher at the Fitchburg Historical Society. Or maybe the oldest candlepin bowling alley? Not sure. In any event, this is inexpensive family entertainment. I wish they'd made more of an effort to retain their historic charm, but it's cluttered appearance has its own charm. See more..

  6. 4.5 Coggshall Park (46 reviews)
    - Beautiful city park
    Spent 1-2 hours Parks
    Coggshall Park image
The small lake is beautiful, with a walking trail all around it. We met a member of the citizens group that supports the park, and she told us the fascinating history. We also walked into the woods in one of the marked trails and saw beautiful rock formations and a narrow creek flowing between the rocks. Children and seniors were feeding the ducks and Canada geese. There was a rock band playing by the stone house. Much of the park was built by the WPA during the Depression. A delilghtful find! See more..
  7. 4.5 River Styx Brewing (17 reviews)
    - Great beer, wishing them great luck
    Breweries
    River Styx Brewing image
We're really pulling for River Styx Brewing, because it's got to be particularly tough during the pandemic for a small, independent brewery like this to stay afloat. But they're trying their best. They recently reopened the taproom, but our visit was while they still were employing the parking lot for a beer garden. They've done a great job of distancing, sanitizing and meeting state guidelines by providing food from a couple of different sources. They even had live music. But none of it would matter if the beer wasn't great, which it is. Our favorites were the Venom of Cerberus (Triple N.E. IPA) and Moria (Imperial Double Stout), but everything we've tried is fresh and well crafted. I wish them much luck and hope they can weather this pandemic. See more..

  10. 3.5 Great Wolf Lodge - Water Park (358 reviews)
    - Fun but crowded and could use deep cleaning
    Water Parks
Great Wolf Lodge - Water Park image
Fun place- an indoor theme park with lots of water slides and tons of arcade games. 9 and 11 year olds having a blast but are probably on the older side for lots of the themed activities (kid yoga, magic). Staff has been very nice and place seems safe and well-run. Carpets throughout are dirty so bring flip flops! Beds are comfy but our room had dust bunnies and popcorn under one of the “wolf den” bunks. We got to breakfast at 7:30 (opening time) and had to wait in line for 30 min for a table... apparently they take reservations which we didn’t realize. We drove to Zapatas for Mexican food for dinner which was great - lines for dinner were too long. Overall a fun place, kids are loving it! See more..
