Von Jakob Winery & Brewery image
If you’re hitting the Southern Illinois wine trail, you have to hit Von Jakob. They have many delicious wines, with many sweet options. They also have slushes and a full food menu. Go on a day when it’s beautiful outside. You won’t regret the views. I ordered fish tacos, the Johnny Apple and Ridge Red sweet wines. Go! See more..
  2. 4.5 Crystal Lake Brewing (70 reviews)
    - Tasty Craft Beers
    Saturday: 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM Bars & Clubs • Breweries • Beer Tastings & Tours
    Crystal Lake Brewing image
I visited Crystal Lake Brewing on a Monday afternoon (one of the rare breweries open on Mondays). I was glad to find that they had plenty of outdoor seating available which was helpful during the current covid times. I was here basically just for beer tasting, so food being not available at this place was not a concern for me. They welcome customers to order or bring food in. They have a diverse variety of beer offerings, and I had a Taster Flight of four beers. Their Oktoberfest and the Milk Stout were excellent. They also offer beers (crowlers, growlers, cans) to go. During regular times, they appear to be a popular gathering place. Crystal Lake Brewing is surely worth a stop for their tasty craft beers. I really enjoyed my visit here. See more..
  3. 4.5 Lena Brewing Company (53 reviews)
    - Fantastic experience!
    Saturday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Breweries
    Lena Brewing Company image
Our group of 17 were on our way to Galena and stopped in Lena to visit this brewery. So glad we did. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We all order food and despite there being a fair amount of people ordering, the delivery was relatively fast. Food comes from the Rafter Restaurant next door. The beers were very good as well as the cocktails; try the Melonade. We sat outside in a covered area (no sun beating down on you) and enjoyed the view of the fields. The vibe is very relaxing and it's just a great place to hang out and have a few beverages. If you're in the area, stop by for a few. I know that we will return. Also, be sure to check out the merchandise. Some very cool (and humorous) t-shirts. Note: We have a family member that has mobility issues. There is a ramp up to the bar area. Once there, it was easy to to navigate the space and they have both low and high tables. I would consider it accessible friendly. See more..

    Pollyanna Brewing Company image
Pollyanna Brewing is a lively brewery in the lovely surroundings of beautiful Historic Lemont. The brewery is located close to the Historic I&M Canal and Trail. So one can make a nice combined visit to the brewery along with spending time on the trail. I visited in August, and noticed the brewery has made good accommodations for the pandemic conditions with seating outdoors. The tap room is laid out nicely with a variety of chairs and the brewing equipment is visible from the tap room. They offer a variety of beers in different sizes including Taster flights and growlers. The menu has a pretty full description of the type of the beer. The bar tender was friendly in spite of being busy on a weekend. No food is served, but they allow outside food to be brought in. I highly recommend Pollyanna Brewing. It is an enjoyable place. Scorched Earth Brewing Company image
Was in town overnight and decided to try the various local breweries. Scorched Earth was by far our favorite in terms of the quality and selection of beer. We liked it so much we bought quite a bit to take home. The facility itself was well decorated yet at the same time a very comfortable place to just hang out while enjoying a good beer. We felt the prices were on par with other craft breweries we've been to. If we lived closer we would definitely be regulars. See more..

If you are a fan of craft beers, then you will want to check out Triptych. I had about 6 of their small pours (4oz). I was pretty excited that I found this place as they had a couple beers that could go toe to toe with Tree house at a far more affordable price. Great beers, friendly staff, worth a visit if you like craft beer. See more..
  13. 4.5 Big Muddy Brewing (30 reviews)
    - Must See in Murphysboro
    Breweries
    Big Muddy Brewing image
Have had Big Muddy beers before but this was the first visit to their brewery. We wanted to take the tour and were prepared to pay the feed (comes with a tasting and a glass I think). Anyway, there was only the bartender the day we were there so no tours, but he gave us a short version for free, very accommodating. It looks like they do not serve food but they did have call-in menus on the table. We brought in some McDonald's and had no trouble at all. We tried a flight and were not disappointed. The decor is relatively plain / industrial. Cement floor. Nice tables and benches but clearly this is first and foremost a working brewery, not a brewpub. Very good free Wi-Fi. If you are anywhere in the area and like craft beer, definitely worth a visit. See more..

    - Homey brewery for craft beers
    Breweries
    One Trick Pony Brewery image
One Trick Pony Brewery is a homey little microbrewery in Lansing. Stopped here one weekday afternoon and fully enjoyed the visit. There was a small patio in front to sit outside which came in handy during these pandemic times. In spite of being a small place, it appears they offer indoor live music (I was there too early in the day). The rustic deco in the taproom has a horse theme (horseshoes and saddles on the wall). Their beer offerings change frequently, hence no printed menu. The beers are listed on a board in the taproom. A large variety of beers are available, and I had a Taster Flight of four excellent beers. They also offer their beers to go in crowlers/growlers, and two were available in 16-oz cans. One Trick Pony Brewing is a great place to go for people who love craft beers and worth repeat visits to check out their changing brews. See more..

Wishful Acres Farm & Brewery image
My daughter and I went here to pick up some root beer during our family vacation, and we love the people, the place, and the root beer. We were able to just come into the main barn/service area and pick up our root beer for carry out. It was reasonably priced, and it came in a souvenir bottle that we could keep for future use. While we were there, I had a small chat with the owners about their business and story, and they were happy to share their experience and insight. This is a great family business with a great product, and I highly recommend that you check it out if you're passing through or staying in the Lena region. The root beer is a dynamite combination with pizza. Also, I want to note that they were super clean and I felt safe when I was there, which was nice during COVID. See more..

    - Oldest Distillery in Illinois?
Saturday: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Distilleries • Breweries • History Museums
    Thornton Distilling Co. image
Built in 1857, our historic 20,000-sf structure is Illinois oldest standing brewery and distillery. These walls have endured everything from a tornado in 1901 to government raids throughout prohibition. The tour begins in the old cellar where guests learn about the early immigrant brew master, John Bielfeldt who started brewing on the property in 1850. Our collection of artifacts, curiosities, and breweriana is displayed with original photos from the property dating back to the mid 1800’s. Guests will then venture deep underground, far beneath the cellar into our subterranean artesian well. The cavernous limestone space is the source of many local legends, and the fountain head still flows with the same pristine water that made the early brewers famous. (please note - guests are welcome to take a group photo while underground). The group will then journey to the distillery production floor. The tour concludes with a guided tasting. After the tour, stay for dinner & drinks See more..

A great place to stop and have a couple beers. They have a lot of sours and heavier beers (stouts and porters). We had samples of 9 beers and loved 8 of them. The staff was really knowledgeable and nice. We were there for an hour but the woman behind the bar came by multiple times and gave us free samples of beer from bottles she just opened. We plan on stopping by again. Lots of restaurants next door so plenty of places to get food to bring in. See more..

    Buzz Bomb Brewing Co image
The quality and variety of the beer here is exceptional. They aren’t afraid to brew traditionally and with a twist. New taps regularly with customer favs like Barfight Brown Ale and a few with a twist like Orange Whip. Plus the decor is great with an industrial meets Springfieldian chill vibe. The staff is super knowledgeable and even Cicerone Certified...so you get the “Sommelier of Beer” when deciding what to order. We like Buzz Bomb so much we held my Mom’s 70th Birthday Party here a couple of years back. They have a fantastic upstairs and since we live out of town they were tremendous with arrangements for food from Cafe Moxo across the street and music. These folks are friendly too. Buzz Bomb is not to missed when in town. See more..

    Hickory Creek Brewing Company image
Visited Hickory Creek Brewing after a bike ride on the nearby Wauponsee Glacial Trail. I am really impressed with this wonderfully designed taproom. The nature scene pictures on two walls in the taproom are just amazing. The whole place was 'spic and span' clean. A large variety of their craft beers are available in the taproom. Interestingly, they offer two types of Taster flights - The Regular flight has four beers in 8-oz glasses, and the Junior flight has four beers in 4-oz glasses. Of course, the customer selects the four beers from the menu. In addition, beers to go are available in cans, howlers (32-oz) and growlers (64-oz) at reasonable prices. I was impressed with my taster flight, with the best being the Whack the Beaver Imperial Porter. They don’t serve food except Pretzels, but outside food is permitted. I highly recommend Hickory Creek Brewing for craft beer lovers. One will certainly find one or more beers to their liking. See more..

River Hawk Brewing in Channahon is a beautiful brewery/taproom. The tables are shiny and beautifully decorated. The taproom has a nice TV viewing area, and outdoor seating is also available. I had a flight of four taster beers and enjoyed all of them; the Oatmeal Stout was outstanding. I also had a sample sip of the Honey Wheat - that one was pretty flat and insipid. No food is served at the brewery but food trucks visit the place occasionally or one can bring in food from outside. Ample parking is available. River Hawk Brewing is well worth the visit for tasting craft beers. The place also produces wines. See more..

Stopped in and had a few flights. Good beer, staff was great. No food is prepared there, but they do have food trucks pretty regularly. See more..

Golden Fox Brewing was created by two friends, Jim Fox and Kevin Ray, both of whom dabbled in homebrewing. Years ago, Kevin received a homebrewing kit for his birthday and was immediately hooked on the hobby. When Kevin started taking his homebrew to Indianapolis Colt's tailgates, he then discovered Jim also homebrewed. Through brewing for themselves and friends, they discovered that others loved the beers they crafted as much as they did. With people offering to buy their beer, the dream started to come alive—to brew beer on a professional level. The goal was to start out small, then grow steadily and ultimately retire from their full-time jobs. The opportunity arose to start and grow faster much sooner than expected. Now here we are, opening a taproom just three short years later! See more..
