Von Jakob Winery & Brewery, Illinois, United States

A Must Stop

If you’re hitting the Southern Illinois wine trail, you have to hit Von Jakob. They have many delicious wines, with many sweet options. They also have slushes and a full food menu. Go on a day when it’s beautiful outside. You won’t regret the views. I ordered fish tacos, the Johnny Apple and Ridge Red sweet wines. Go!

    So so winery.
Very disappointed as we stopped here to listen to a music group that was listed on their website’s event page. I do not believe this group is even still together now after doing some digging into their own Facebook page. A different band was playing and they were good but not why we wanted to stop there. Wine was not anything to rave about.

    Just Ok
Stopped by after hiking in the area to have lunch and wine tasting. We walked in and there were several groups of people sitting at tables. No one really acknowledged us or tried to help us. We sat down at one of the tables and after awhile, when we were not acknowledged, we walked up to the tasting bar and found food and wine tasting menus. We took them and sat back down. Looked over the food menu and decided what we wanted to eat, still no one acknowledged us. Finally I walked up to the employee and asked if we could order lunch and then my lunch order was taken. Our lunch took very long, about an hour and during that time we were never asked if we needed anything. The food had a European/ German feel and was actually very good. We did do a wine tasting and the staff was very attentive and friendly at that time. We actually liked several of the wines and bought a few bottles. I don't know if they are short staff or the staff needs some education on customer service. There was only one employee who was performing the tastings, getting beer or wine for customers and leaving the area to get and deliver food. When they acknowledged you, they were very friendly and helpful. The decor itself was average. There was a big outside area with nice views but nothing spectacular. All in all, a nice place, average, but needs some improvements in customer service.
