On the way back from Dixon stopped by at this historic bridge. It was built in 1863 during the Civil War and is perfectly restored. It is still open to traffic albeit one lane and there is a park just past the bridge with picnic tables. I wish that more were around though only 5 are remaining in the state. Out of those five it is the only one still open to vehicles. A must see for anyone visiting in the area!! See more..

Besides its obvious economic and social importance in connecting Peoria and East Peoria, this impressive bridge adds a lot to the beautiful scenic looks of the riverfront areas in both cities. The bridge is going to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year, and it is still looking so good! Driving across the bridge, high above the powerful and unstoppable Illinois River we seldom think about the historical prominence of the bridge. In the age of utter consumption, it just seems to be so routine, so convenient, so indispensable. But I found that Murray Baker Bridge also takes some really good pictures. From any angle, really. We are covered bridge enthusiasts from Vermont. Sugar Creek Covered Bridge is perfectly lovely, in a peaceful setting, and seems to beckon visitors to stay a while. We were sad to see well wishes tagged on interior and remnants of gender reveal confetti on the walkway to the portal. She’s a beauty! Show some respect, please. See more..

Just outside of Chester sits this old covered bridge. There's a small parking lot and restroom facilities. A plaque describes the history of the bridge. It's been restored very well. Nice spot for photos with the trees and river. When I was there a couple were taking wedding photos. I visited in October and it was a somewhat warm day and a lot of bugs were buzzing around inside the bridge. Nice quick place to stop and admire if you're in the area. See more..

This is a nice place to stop and have a picnic or rest. There are bathrooms and tables in shade. It's very peaceful. I was here in August and bugs weren't;t too bad in afternoon. The main attraction of course is the covered bridge. There are some plaques up with details of the history fo the bridge and area. Nice spot to check out if you're in the area. See more..
