    Grand View Drive is undoubtedly a very beautiful site to visit and to enjoy -- it's 2,5 miles of smooth driving on a waving road, flanked by a lavish residential area in the west and fantastic panoramic views of the Illinois River in the east. Pedestrian walk runs parallel to the road, the top of the steep bank is very well maintained and nicely landscaped, and picnic areas with benches and tables add more comfort to the scenery of sheer beauty. The place is popular with walkers (including the pets), runners, bikers, people of all ages, really. Tourists usually visit Grand View Drive too, and take tons of photos! Grand View Drive was constructed between 1910 ~ 1925, it is listed on the US National Register of Historic Places (1996), and the US President Theodore Roosevelt called it "the world's most beautiful drive".     The drive is lovely. Take along a passenger so the driver can keep her/his eyes on the mostly-straight road. If you are driving this road during the eagle migration, look ahead to see if other drivers have pulled over to the side of the road. That's your cue to also pull over, because those drivers have probably spotted one or more eagles. Do some research ahead of time, so you can stop for things that interest you, such as Lewis-and-Clark sites or Abraham Lincoln sites. See more..
