Been wanting to visit this place after hearing about it 2 years ago. There aren’t many local Rum distilleries in the Chicago area that are at least noteworthy. I never hear anyone talk about how great Two Brothers’ liquors are for example. I came to Star Union Distillery with in laws and in laws for a before dinner drink. Ambiance was nice, relaxing, and interesting due to the historic Westclox location and the decor to match. Staff were friendly and attentive but mostly I noted a sense of pride about the product they are producing here. Beyond the rum they have Agave liquor, Brandy, Grappa and Vodka. They then raised the bar by creating a large menu of craft and classic cocktails to sample their products. When visiting Peru this should be a stop to savor the past and present of what this community has to offer as you go on your way to dinner, dancing or enjoying the scenic attractions nearby. *Please drink responsibly* and take a few bottles home like we did. My wife and I stopped by Kennay Farms distilling Saturday afternoon. It is in an old theatre and they have done a fabulous job with converting in. The upstairs tasting room is done gorgeously and the views down to the distilling and brewing floor is amazing. One of the owners, was working the bar and she was friendly and knowledgeable. My wife and I each had a cocktail and then shared a flight of beer. Everything was very high quality. If you want to spend and hour or two visiting with friends in a nice environment, this is a great place to check out. See more..

We stopped in Vandalia to check out this distillery. We took a "tour" which cost us $10 but included a great presentation, a tasty drink and a tasting of their products. The owner did about an hour presentation/talk on the history and process. It was very interesting and we got to taste the product (vodka, rum, bourbon)...extremely good. We left with bottles of the lemon vodka and spiced rum. We would highly recommend this as a fun activity. There is a restaurant next door (Blind Society) that we want to try next time, but plan to do that as well while you are there. See more..
