  1. 4.5 Maggie Daley Park (1.338 reviews)
    - Terrific free park - #1 free place in city for kids
    Parks • Playgrounds
    Maggie Daley Park image
Having been to Chicago many times, I'd say this is the #1 free place in the city to go with 5-12 year olds (with possible exception of Lincoln Park Zoo). There are a number of free towers, slides, and other very creative places for kids to play; plenty of benches for adults to sit in, and some other options like a climbing wall and bunji jump if you want to spend a bit of $. Easy to get to on public transportation or uber. Not a "hidden" gem but definitely a gem. See more..

    - Relaxing Visit
Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Hiking Trails • Playgrounds
    Washington Park image
I visited Washington Park after a busy day sightseeing in Springfield. I walked around the gazebo and other areas before heading out to pick up dinner. Then I ordered carry out so I could eat it in the park on a bench. It was a very relaxing dinner! (There are ample parking spots and trash cans.) I walked around the Rose Garden, the Angel of Hope memorial, and the outside of the Botanical Gardens before the half hour carillon concert. More details are on their Facebook page. The park was filled with locals and the trails were in use by many. See more..

  7. 4.0 Olney City Park (29 reviews)
    - White squirrels not easy to find
Nature & Wildlife Areas • Playgrounds
    Olney City Park image
First of all this is a nice simple city park. We had a picnic at a shelter. People were wandering around looking for white squirrels with no luck. We gave up and enjoyed the perfect October day. After a while we spotted a single white squirrel scampering high in a walnut tree. A couple drove over from Indy - they had been looking for awhile. They shared in our find. Later we saw a second white squirrel. Grey squirrels are a plenty. See more..

    - Soft play with two and a half year old

    Sapora Playworld image
Really nice soft play area for kids. Very clean and delightfully quiet. There were only two other families in when we visited so it was really chilled out but also NO thumping music as there so often is in the UK. My daughter was so happy running off some energy and clambering around. It was $6 entry, toilets were plentiful and clean and I was really happy to spend the time there with her. It's located in the same building as the Ice Rink, loads of parking available and even though we. And in around 2pm they said we could stay until they close at 8pm (no chance I can last that long but a nice offer all the same). See more..
  10. 4.5 Lords Park (14 reviews)
    - Revisited the Park and the Zoo
    Zoos • Parks • Playgrounds
    Lords Park image
I went to Lord's Park for the first time in 50 years and it was nice and it was amazing and how well they kept it up and for all those years and when you go through the zoo and it takes you about 10 minutes to go through the zoo. I liked the bison over there and the donkeys. So there's a little museum next to the zoo and I was going to go there and there was one lady and that just walked over there and she told me that it wasn't open so I didn't not take my nephew there and he liked it so much and that he wants to go there again. 16. 4.5 Cannon Park (10 reviews)
    - One of my go-to running spots
Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Playgrounds
    Cannon Park image
The walking/running path at this park is one of the few paved ones in the area. In cooler weather, I run here often. During the summer, I tend to do late evening runs, and none of the area parks are open past 8, which is a shame to close just when the weather cools enough to use the path. I'd suggest extended summer hours. The path surrounds a pond, which is lovely. Geese frequent the area, which I love, but they do leave me dodging goose poo. There is also a "secret" path leading down some stairs into the tree area. I've been known to run up and down those stairs a couple of times. The park will occasionally host special events, which makes my runs a little more fun. I have enjoyed running past children's artwork on display. Another day, the path was lined with American flags honoring soldiers. Overall, a fun park which hosts events and a very good running path. See more..
  17. 3.5 Jump Zone! (10 reviews)
    - This is the place to tire out the grandkids
    Playgrounds
    Jump Zone! image
The Jump Zone! is located in a commercial industrial complex. Though not too hard to find, you will have to look for it. The staff is very friendly. They do parties and have several small party rooms. There are at least a dozen different inflatable houses and they are pretty big. If you can't tire out the kids here, you never will. The one thing that someone did mention is that it is loud, but it does become background noise. The noise is coming from the number of fan motors that are keeping the inflatables inflated. If you have kids and you are looking to do something because the weather is lousy, here is the place. Make sure that they are wearing socks. See more..

  19. 5.0 Southwind Park (9 reviews)
    - All the flowers!
    Parks • Playgrounds
    Southwind Park image
Family gathering in the pavilions was what brought me to the park. After driving from dry, burnt, Colorado the flowers and and trees were beautiful! There were many people playing their Pokemon go game and really enjoying their time outdoors. I had to join and learn all about this game. Not quite my thing but they were happy to help me work it out. This place is well maintained. Giant! You would not know there were hundreds of people there that day with how big the place is. Absolutely beautiful too. Go for a walk, hang out at the pond, play on the playground, have a picnic, play horseshoes, shuffle board, Frisbee, or Pokemon go. Just get out and enjoy! See more..

We go here a few times a week all summer. Has a nice short distance Frisbee golf course. Never have any problems with hooligans. Tampico is just a small Illinois farming town, but it is also the birthplace of Ronald Reagan, actor and eventually, President of the United States. This little park has an interesting stature of Reagan as a young boy standing on a cannon. There is also an artillery piece, a historical site info marker, a gazebo, war memorial, and picnic area. I stopped for a little bit to plan out my afternoon and enjoy the nice weather. If you come into town to see Reagan's birthplace, it's worth a stop for the information and the cannon stature picture.
