Ben Butterworth Parkway, Illinois, United States

An interesting experience

We went here for a late afternoon walk and to enjoy the river. We enjoyed the long walkway. The area was only in fair shape due to recent flooding.

Great Place for Walkers and Bikers
I'm a lifelong resident of Moline. When I'm looking for a relaxing place to walk I enjoy going to the Butterworth Parkway. It runs along the banks of the Mississippi River and is well landscaped and a place that many locals go for exercise or just a nice stroll. Bikers may also enjoy the parkway but need to slow down to avoid pedestrians. However, if a biker starts at the east end of the parkway on the Moline/East Moline border they can have a wonderful ride upstream with little interference from walkers. The bike path leads almost 50 miles north to Savannah, IL with few breaks. Highly recommended for bikers.

    Peaceful Nature Walk/Bike Path
Wonderful 20 mile bike/walk path that follows the Mississippi River. The path extends into multiple cities and has picnic shelters, benches, docks for launching boats, fishing, and small playground equipment for small children. There are a few sites for food usually across the street from the path and a few bathroom facilities dotted along the way. Currently (5/2019) parts of the path are under water due to flooding) but should be totally cleared by July end of 2019. It's a great place to unwind, exercise or enjoy family and friends. Picnic shelters may be reserved for special events by calling Moline's Parks & Recreation Department.
